Student Organizations

Delta State University has over 50 registered Student Organizations; there is something for everyone here at DSU! Student Organizations cover a wide range of topics and interest areas, including but not limited to: academic, political, racial/ethnic, religious, social fraternities and sororities, sports and leisure, and honor societies.

The Office of Student Life recognizes these organizations with the University through an annual registration process, starting August 1st. Active Minds– Active Minds is established for the expressed purpose of increasing awareness of the students, faculty, and staff about the following:
Issues surrounding mental health. Symptoms related to mental health disorders. Mental health resources that are available both on campus and in the surrounding community. Reducing stigma surrounding mental health disorders so that students will feel more comfortable openly discussing mental health-related issues and seeking help when it is needed. Supporting peers to find the skills and resources they need to increase healthy coping techniques that promote personal wellness
Providing a forum and building an open environment for all students to speak up about mental health

African American Student Council – The purpose of this organization is to provide an atmosphere whereby students will be able to engage in social activities that are designed to increase their knowledge about the community & its culture. African-American Student Council of Delta State University’s mission is to offer minority students at DSU an organization whose impetus is to enhance Black cultural awareness and foster social cohesiveness.

Delta Diplomats – A select group of student recruiters who assist the university with the recruiting of prospective students and serve as leaders for the university’s new student orientation.

Delta Statement – The Delta Statement is a student-run and student-edited newspaper at Delta State University. It serves the student readership by reporting on news involving the campus and surrounding community. Previously The Delta Statement was published every Thursday during the fall and spring semesters and distributed free of charge, campus wide. Diamond Girls – Diamond Girls are an integral part of the Delta State University Baseball team. This group of young women assist with gate commissions, retrieve foul balls, return bats for both home and visiting teams, supply umpires with baseballs, and assist in numerous other tasks that help the home games run smoothly. Girls are also assigned a ‘bat buddy’ from the Baseball team and are to support their buddy throughout the season with gifts and encouragement.

Delta State Gamers Club (DSGC) – The DSGC is a free, come-as-you-are organization that accepts all gamers. We accept Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Family into our group, and proudly represent all forms of gaming, including video games, board and card games, and tabletop RPGs. We strive to create a welcoming space for anyone searching for a place of belonging and relaxation. Those who do not actively play games are also welcome to observe and relax while hanging out with friends.

Delta State Pride Alliance– The purpose of Delta State Pride Alliance is to promote a safe and accepting environment for all students who fall within the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. The focus of this endeavor is to break down social barriers to promote social progress as it relates to the LGBTQ+ community.

Delta State University Precision Flight Team – The purpose of this organization is to help promote fellowship & friendship among Delta State University students, faculty & staff involved in Aviation & to provide fund raising & social events.

DSU Art Club– DSU Art Club will be focused around the creation of Animations, as well as the different processes that go into that creation. We will be critiquing and viewing different types of Animation from both tv and feature(movie) from an artistic perspective, and hosting/participating in art challenges such as character design challenges, and themed Animation challenges. We also host weekly live figure drawing sessions on Fridays, as well as movie nights and animation nights where we watch animated shows, make fan art, and critique episodes.

DSU Tea Club – The Delta State University Tea Club is a social club that aims to provide members a safe and relaxing community to spend time with. They do weekly meetings, fundraisers for charity, and activities throughout the year.

Fashion Board – The Delta State University Fashion Board was created to bring a sense of community for students who are fashion lovers and are interested in the fashion and entertainment industries. We offer opportunities in modeling, hair and makeup, styling, graphic design, videography, and photography. DSU Fashion Board is open to students of all majors and we participate in fashion shows, special events, trips, and seminars. Tryouts for new members are held annually.

International Student Association – An organization dedicated to strengthening international relations through cultural, social, educational & professional activities.

National Society Of Leadership & Success– Our guiding question is: “Are we helping the greatest number of people in the greatest possible way?” For more than 20 years, we have built and developed a robust community of goal-oriented leaders making positive change across the country, working together to build a better world for all.

Pageant Board – The purpose of this organization is to plan & produce the Delta State University Most Beautiful Pageant & the Miss Delta State University Competition.

Student Alumni Association– The purpose of the Student Alumni Association is to educate current students on the Alumni Association by way of networking opportunities and educational experiences with the help of the Delta State University Alumni Association. Students for Life @ DSU– Our primary purpose at Students for Life@DSU is to advocate for human life-affirming initiatives. This organization works to give a voice to those whose lives are threatened. Whether by induced abortion, euthanasia, or the destruction of human embryos for research, we value all human life from conception until natural death. In furtherance of these goals, Students for Life@DSU seeks to educate its members, community, and partners about the value of life. We do this through event programming and promoting respect for human life at all stages on Delta State University’s campus and at a local, state, and national levels.

Student Government Association– The Student Government Association, commonly referred to as “SGA,” serves to promote unity and welfare of the entire student body, provide a high standard of responsibility in the interests of our student life, and to ensure goodwill among students, faculty, staff, and administration. All students enrolled at Delta State University automatically become members of the Student Government Association. The association functions through three branches: executive, judicial, and legislative. Its purpose is to deal effectively with all matters of student affairs, to organize the student body in order that it may work collectively toward the betterment of the university, and to uphold the best traditions at Delta State.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the campus governing body for the DSU fraternities affiliated nationally with the National Interfraternity Council.

Panhellenic Council (NPC) is composed of Greek women interested in strengthening the bonds among the sororities. Its purposes are to maintain a high standard of sorority life and interfraternity relationships within the university, to further intellectual accomplishment and sound scholarship, and to cooperate with the college administration in the maintenance of high social standards.

National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC) is an umbrella organization for seven historically black, international Greek letter Fraternities and Sororities. The council promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

HONOR SOCIETIES

Accounting Honor Society – The Delta State University Accounting Honor Society exists to honor the few Accountancy students each year who meet rigorous academic standards, as well as demonstrate excellence in four other areas. Its sole activity is an annual induction ceremony each spring, at which inductees have their names publicly announced, pledge to uphold the integrity of the Accounting profession, receive a membership certificate and honor cords to be worn at commencement, and are celebrated with a buffet reception that follows the ceremony.

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) - The world’s largest Honor Society exclusively serves premedical education, with a membership exceeding 124,000. The mission of AED is to stimulate excellence in premedical education, to promote communication between students and educators, and to benefit health organizations, charities and the community. AED is both an Honor Society and a service organization. Membership in AED is offered to students recognized to have superior scholastic achievement who have completed at least three semesters of premedical work in college. Activities include regular meetings, where topics of interest are presented by students, faculty members, and health professionals. AED publishes and newsletter and a journal, The Scalpel. Alpha Iota Mu - The purpose of this organization is to recognize outstanding academic achievement in the field of information systems; provide a forum for academic, professional, and social development; promote high ethical standards; and encourage the growth & integrity of the information systems profession.

Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) - BBB is an honor society for students of the biological sciences. Since its founding in 1922, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 430 chapters have been established. Membership in Tri-Beta is offered to students who have completed at least three semesters of college coursework including at least three courses in biology with average grades of B or above. The society publishes a journal, BIOS, with articles of interest to biologists and society news. Delta State University maintains a local chapter of the society. Chi Alpha Sigma - is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who excel in the classroom and athletic competition The organization recognizes college student-athletes who receive a varsity letter in their sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher during/after their fifth full-time term, and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Delta Mu Delta - A business honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a DMD community that fosters the well-being of its individual members and the business community through life-time membership.

Eta Mu Sigma - The purpose of this organization is to recognize & honor those individuals in the field of Aviation who through scholarship integrity & outstanding achievement have been a credit to their program.

Kappa Delta Pi – This organization is an international honor society in Education that elects those to membership who exhibits the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards & promise in teaching & allied professions. It encourages improvement & distinction in achievement & contributes to education.

Kappa Pi - The purpose of this organization is to form bodies of representative students who will, by their influence and their artistic interests, uphold the highest ideals of a liberal education; to provide a means whereby students with artistic commitment meet for the purpose of informal study & entertainment; to raise the standards of productive artistic work among the students in the colleges & universities; to furnish the highest reward for conscientious effort in furthering the best interest of art in the broadest sense of the term, by election to membership in the Fraternity, based upon such meritorious work.

Mu Phi Epsilon - The purpose of this organization is for the advancement of music throughout the world, the promotion of musicianship & scholarship, loyalty to the Alma Mater & the development of a true bond of friendship.

Psi Chi (Psychology Club) - founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS). Psi Chi functions as a federation of chapters located at more than 800 senior colleges and universities in the U.S. A national council, comprised of psychologists who are Psi Chi members and who are elected by the chapters, guides the organization. Psi Chi serves two major goals: provides academic recognition to its inductees through membership; and nurtures the spark of that accomplishment by offering a climate congenial to its creative development.

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) - The purpose of this organization is to recognize those who have attained a high standard of efficiency in collegiate activities and to inspire others to strive for conspicuous attainments along similar lines; to bring together the most representative students in all phases of collegiate life and thus to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate interest; to bring together members of the faculty and student body of the institution, as well as other Omicron Delta Kappa members, on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness.

Order of Omega - Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for members of Fraternity & Sorority organizations. Order of Omega recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and within the Fraternity/Sorority, campus, and local community. Members are selected from the top 3% of students at each institution. To date, over 500 chapters have been chartered throughout North America, each sharing the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.

Phi Eta Sigma - The purpose of this organization is to promote a higher standard of learning & to encourage high scholastic attainment among the freshmen in our institutions of higher learning.

Phi Lambda Upsilon - The aims and purposes of Phi Lambda Upsilon are the promotion of high scholarship and original investigation in all branches of pure and applied chemistry. Phi Lambda Upsilon was founded as an honorary chemical society in March 1899, at the University of Illinois. This was the first honor society dedicated to a single scientific discipline. In the span 118 years, Phi Lambda Upsilon has grown into an organization comprising seventy-five chapters and more than 60,000 members. Membership includes exceptional students of pure and applied chemistry selected from the junior, senior, or graduate classes, and also from well qualified members of faculties, staffs, as well as from selected post-doctoral students engaged in chemical endeavors in affiliation with qualified institutions of higher learning. As the Society’s official publication, The Register performs several important functions. Not only does it record for historical interest the activities of the national organization and individual chapters, but it also serves to coordinate our widespread chapters’ efforts to achieve the purposes for which the Society was founded and for which it exists. Pi Gamma Mu - The purpose of this organization is to encourage excellence in the social sciences among undergraduate and graduate students. This organization not only gives recognition to good scholarship, but actively promotes is all year long by enriching activities, a lectureship program, and student-faculty fellowship.

Pi Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing- Sigma is an international community of nurses, dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, teaching, learning, and service through the cultivation of communities of practice, education, and research. Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students, who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, and to nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing.

Sigma Delta Pi - The purpose of this organization is to promote the appreciation of the culture of Latin America and of Spain, and to foster better understanding of the contribution Spanish-speaking people have made to our American heritage.

Sigma Tau Delta- English honor society for students at accredited colleges and universities that grant baccalaureate or higher degrees. Established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing. Dedicated to fostering literacy and all aspects of the discipline of English.

DSU INTRAMURALS

The Intramural Program is designed to provide Delta State students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports and activities. Every participant is given a chance to develop physically and mentally through social recreation.

Aviation:

Alpha Eta Rho – The purpose of this organization is to actively associate interested students of Aviation with leaders and executives in the industry of Aviation.

Okra Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) - The purpose of the Okra Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) encompasses several key objectives aimed at promoting professionalism and knowledge acquisition in airport administration.

The Flying Okra Flight Team- The Flying Okra Flight Team is a dynamic and passionate organization deeply committed to fostering fellowship and friendship within Delta State University's vibrant aviation community. Our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students who share a common passion for aviation

Women in Aviation - The purpose of this organization is to champion women’s professional growth and enrichment in the aviation fields by providing opportunities for sharing information and networking, education, fostering a sense of community & increasing public awareness of women in the industry.

Business:

DSU Future Business Leaders of America- The DSU Future Business Leaders of America (formerly Phi Beta Lambda) mission is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

Greater Business- Greater Business wants to promote students' involvement in both academics and extracurricular activities on campus. We also want to create a campus department that is stronger and more substantial. The founding of this organization will raise awareness among more on-campus, off-campus, and prospective students. Additionally, we want to invest time at a nearby school by participating in recruitment activities that promote Delta State University with a focus on the Business department.

Student Association of Future Healthcare Professionals (SAFHP) - The purpose of this organization is to provide educational events and promote training opportunities of a quality nature for students who have future goals of working in healthcare organizations. Also, Delta State University is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives Higher Education Network and the SAFHP is the recognized entity.

Criminal Justice:

Criminal Justice Association & Criminology Club - The Criminal Justice and Criminology Club is a student-led organization. It is open to students from various academic backgrounds who share a common interest in the study of crime, law enforcement, legal systems, and social justice. The club organizes a range of activities and events, including guest lectures from professionals in the criminal justice field, field trips to law enforcement agencies and correctional facilities, mock trials, panel discussions, and workshops.

Education:

Delta Reading Council - An affiliate of the International Reading Association, the Delta Reading Council is an organization dedicated to assisting local area educators in their pursuit of knowledge that will be helpful in the area of reading instruction. The Delta Reading Council meets once each semester. Student members may attend the state and/or international conference each school year.

DSU Mississippi Association for Middle Level Education (MAMLE) - DSU Mississippi for Middle Level Education is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to improving education for students who are in grades 5-8. Student members may attend the state conference each Spring.

DSU Mississippi Early Childhood Association (MECA) - Mississippi Early Childhood Association is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to improving the quality of care and education of young children in Mississippi. DSU/MECA is an affiliate group. The membership consists of persons concerned about:

Providing opportunity for professional growth as an early childhood educator.
Activating constructive legislation to safeguard the welfare and enhance the educational opportunities of our youngest children.
Utilizing talents of parents, teachers, administrators, social workers, medical personnel, and other persons interested in young children.

Meetings are held on a regular basis each semester. Student members may attend the state conference each fall.

MS Professional Educators (MPE) – The purpose of the organization is to foster high ideals of the education professions; promote interest in education; promote the welfare of students & educators; provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to work cooperatively in their curriculum area; increase knowledge & understanding of pre-service teachers through a variety of educational opportunities; bring relevant issues about the needs of students to the attention of pre-service teachers; and cooperate with agencies & organizations working for the best interest of students.

Math and Science:

American Chemical Society – This organization supports students & their faculty to promote professional development, mentoring & peer support mechanisms for undergraduates majoring in the chemical society. Follow us on Instagram!

Mathematical Association of America (MAA) - The purpose of this organization is to encourage students to continue study in the mathematical sciences and consider a career and to provide opportunities to meet with other Math students & encourage participation in student activities.

Nursing:

Student Nurses Association (SNA) - The purpose of this organization is to foster communication among the members of the nursing student body & between the nursing student body & faculty; to promote a better understanding of the professional nursing program on campus & in the community; and to promote & encourage participation in community affairs & activities which promote improved health care.

Psychology:

Psi Chi - Better known as the Psychology Club is open for the general enlightenment & education of members and to bring these members together to share common interests of Psychology and similar disciplines.

Speech and Hearing:

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) - DSU hosts the Sigma Alpha Eta Chapter of NSSLHA. This organizations is part of the national organization for students interested in studying communication sciences and disorders. NSSLHA was founded in 1972 and is the only official national student association recognized by the American Language Hearing Association (ASHA). NSSLHA has chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities with approximately 13,000 members nationwide.

PERFORMING GROUPS

Chamber Singers - The Chamber Singers is a highly select choir of 18 voices dedicated to the highest standards of preparation and performance. They perform several times throughout the school year, both on campus and around the region. Membership is by audition.

Delta Belles - The Delta Belles dance team is a select group of female students who perform at various athletic and sporting events. Membership is by audition.

Delta Chorale - Delta Chorale is the premier large choral ensemble at Delta State University. This 40-45 voice choir is comprised of students from a variety of academic majors across campus. They present several major concerts throughout the year and tour annually. Membership is by audition.

Delta Music Institute (bands) - The Delta Music Institute, an audio engineering and live performance academic program, has several performing groups and student-led musical groups:

DeltaRox -DeltaRox, a musical group of students and faculty from the DMI Entertainment Industry program at Delta State University, is an area favorite to music lovers of the classic rock sound. DeltaRoX’s set list includes hits from the 70’s and 80’s in the Classic rock genre of American music. Barry Bays, EIS instructor noted that, “this DMI ensemble works hard to present a wide range of songs that have grown out of various styles of roots music to become American classics.” The band has performed at DSU Pig Pickin’, DSU Homecoming, MAC Conference, Crosstie Arts & Jazz Festival, Octoberfest, Tootsie’s, Douglas Corner Cafe`, Airport Grocery, and more. Students may enroll in DeltaRox for one credit hour per semester. See the scholarships section on the Students page for information and a scholarship application. DMI 362 auditions are required at the beginning of each semester to determine skill level and placement within the band. Scholarship funds are available.
Ol' Skool Revue - Ol’ Skool Revue, a musical group of students and faculty from the DMI Entertainment Industry program at Delta State University, is an area favorite to music lovers of the ol’ skool sound. Ol’ Skool Revue has an extensive repertoire that includes hits from the Blues, R&B, Soul, and Funk genres. Band members have become students of the history of the songs and the session musicians that made the songs hits, such as the Funk Brothers from Motown, the Stax session players from Memphis, and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section from north Alabama. Students may enroll in OSR for one credit hour per semester. DMI 361 auditions are required at the beginning of each semester to determine skill level and placement within the band. In addition to local and regional events, Ol’ Skool Revue has performed at Hal & Mal’s (Jackson), Douglas Corner Cafe (Nashville), The International Blues Challenge (Memphis), and The Chicago Blues Festival.
B4Y2K - B2Y4K, DMI’s newest commercial ensemble, is made up of students who study and perform hits from the 90s. Students go through an audition process at the beginning of each semester in order to be a member of this band. Students passing the audition may enroll in B2Y2K for one credit hour per semester. DMI All-Stars - A select group of student engineers and performers.

Delta Players - Delta Players consists of performers and crew members dedicated to presenting a variety of theatrical genres for Delta State University. Contact Kilby Allen for more information.

DSU Gospel Choir- By audition only. This organization aims to entertain listeners with an assortment of gospel songs as performed by DSU Students.

Baptist Student Union (BSU) – The purpose of this organization is to help you deepen your faith in God; find support from others in the living of your Faith; join with others in the study of the Scriptures; use your gifts In ministering to others; have a meaningful worship experience; help get the “bigger picture of the world” from a Christian perspective; and develop friendships that become lasting relationships. Canterbury Campus Ministry - The Episcopal campus ministry at Delta State meets weekly at Calvary Episcopal Church. The purpose of this organization is to walk in love as Christ loved us and to share each others joys and burdens.

God’s Anointed Voices (GAV) - The purpose of this organization is to help students feel at home while showing them that things in life with God can be positive & successful; to encourage the students to stay focused on their goals in life & with God; and to teach students the history & the meaning of the Holy Bible. Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) - DSU FCA is an organization built to help equip, empower and encourage our student-athletes to make a difference with Christ.

Latter Day Saints Student Organization (LDSSA) – The purpose of this organization is to encourage & support members of LDSSA in achieving their academic goals & maintaining a balanced life while on campus; encourage members of LDSSA to become an influence for god by participating in activities & service on campus & in the community; provide students with meaningful service opportunities & social & religious activities that are consistent with LDSSA standards; and promote traditional moral values.

Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) - The purpose of this organization is to provide students with opportunities to study the good news of Jesus Christ in large group Bible studies, small group Bible studies & one to one settings. The goals of this organization include evangelism, growth in the knowledge & application of God’s grace, an atmosphere of sincere fellowship, service to those in the community, and the development of a Biblical world & life view. Camp Looking Glass, a camp for children and adults with developmental disabilities in Greenville, Mississippi, offers volunteer opportunities during their one-week summer camp and monthly weekend camp events. No special skills are required; must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers are needed in the following areas – camp counselors, cooks / kitchen support, programs & activities set up, lifeguards, and site maintenance. *Credit hours and potential internships offered.

Cleveland Chamber of Commerce - The Chamber provides numerous opportunities for members to grow their businesses. Whether it is one of our many networking events, targeted advertising opportunities, or festivals/special events, the Chamber provides a variety of options to grow and develop business. They offer many committees and task forces including but not limited to Community Development, Education, Delta State Community Action Committee, Keep Cleveland Beautiful, Leadership, Retirement, Infrastructure, Government Affairs/Advocacy, Marketing, and Communication, Membership Services, and Finance. The Cleveland/Bolivar County Animal Shelter - The Cleveland Animal Shelter is a pro-adoption shelter protecting the community's animals. Volunteers are needed to assist in day-to-day operations. For more information, visit the Shelter's Facebook page.

Cleveland Farmers Market - CFM features fresh, locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, baked goods, and other unique MS Delta items. Volunteering at Cleveland Farmers Market is a great way to get involved in the Cleveland community and show support to your local farmers and producers. Whether you are interested in becoming a new vendor, a Saturday morning volunteer, joining our board of directors, or have some fresh ideas for the market, CFM would love to have you! The Statesman's Shelf Food Pantry provides non-perishable food and liquids, along with disposable dinnerware, to any member of the Delta State community who wishes to partake. Whether living on campus or off campus, members of the community can request items from The Statesman’s Shelf.

Volunteer hours are currently scheduled for 9 am to 1 pm Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10 am to 12 pm Wednesdays. Other hours may be added at a later time. Volunteer Your Time

The Grammy Museum MS - The GRAMMY Museum MS is an exciting and interactive celebration of the power of music occupying a vibrant new space in Cleveland, Mississippi. Cutting edge exhibits, interactive experiences and films provide a one-of-a-kind visitor experience — engaging, educational, celebratory and inspirational. Red Cross Club - Guided by the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross and its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the Delta State University Red Cross Club will learn, practice and exemplify humanitarian values through mission-related service projects.
