Student Organizations

Delta State University has over 100 registered Student Organizations; there is something for everyone here at DSU! Student Organizations cover a wide range of topics and interest areas, including but not limited to: academic, political, racial/ethnic, religious, social fraternities and sororities, sports and leisure, and honor societies.

The Office of Student Life recognizes these organizations with the University through an annual registration process, starting August 1st. CAMPUS & COMMUNITY

Active Minds- The purpose of this organization is to promote and support mental health on the Delta State Campus. Visit Counseling and Health Services to learn more.

African American Student Council – The purpose of this organization is to provide an atmosphere whereby students will be able to engage in social activities that are designed to increase their knowledge about the community & its culture.

Delta Diplomats – A select group of student recruiters who assist the university with the recruiting of prospective students.

Delta StatementThe Delta Statement is a student-run and student-edited newspaper at Delta State University. It serves the student readership by reporting on news involving the campus and surrounding community. Previously The Delta Statement was published every Thursday during the fall and spring semesters and distributed free of charge, campus wide. Diamond Girls – Diamond Girls are an integral part of the Delta State University Baseball team. This group of young women assist with gate commissions, retrieve foul balls, return bats for both home and visiting teams, supply umpires with baseballs, and assist in numerous other tasks that help the home games run smoothly. Girls are also assigned a ‘bat buddy’ from the Baseball team and are to support their buddy throughout the season with gifts and encouragement.

Delta State Gamers Club (DSGC) – The DSGC is a free, come-as-you-are organization that accepts all gamers. We accept Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Family into our group, and proudly represent all forms of gaming, including video games, board and card games, and tabletop RPGs. We strive to create a welcoming space for anyone searching for a place of belonging and relaxation. Those who do not actively play games are also welcome to observe and relax while hanging out with friends.

Delta State University Precision Flight Team – The purpose of this organization is to help promote fellowship & friendship among Delta State University students, faculty & staff involved in Aviation & to provide fund raising & social events.

DSU Animation Club – DSU Animation Club will be focused around the creation of Animations, as well as the different processes that go into that creation. We will be critiquing and viewing different types of Animation from both tv and feature(movie) from an artistic perspective, and hosting/participating in art challenges such as character design challenges, and themed Animation challenges.  We also host weekly live figure drawing sessions on Fridays, as well as movie nights and animation nights where we watch animated shows, make fan art, and critique episodes.

DSU Tea Club – The Delta State University Tea Club is a social club that aims to provide members a safe and relaxing community to spend time with. They do weekly meetings, fundraisers for charity, and activities throughout the year.

International Student Association – An organization dedicated to strengthening international relations through cultural, social, educational & professional activities.

MS Early Childhood Association (MECA) – The purpose of this organization is to work for the best opportunities for young children and their families through providing a means for persons interested in young children to work together; increasing knowledge and understanding of members through a variety of educational means; bringing relevant issues about the needs of young children to the attention of pre-service teachers; working to improve the health & educational standards for group care of children & to improve the quality of life for them; cooperating with agencies & organizations working for the best interest of young children; and encouraging the development of total associations to support these objectives.

Pageant Board – The purpose of this organization is to plan & produce the Delta State University Most Beautiful Pageant & the Miss Delta State University Pageant.

SADD – Do you want to leave a legacy while helping your peers make good, informed decisions? Be apart of SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Social Work Club – The purpose of this organization is to achieve a better understanding of social work practices, to learn more about social work & social work issues & promote service to the community.

UMADD – The purpose of this organization is to educate students at Delta State University about the dangers of drinking while driving and under-aged drinking. Contact the University Police for more information how you can become involved!

Water Environment Federation – The purpose of this organization is to promote student interest in the environment & to provide an avenue for the exchange of information & ideas between students & members of both the MS Water Environment Association & the Water Environment Federation.

Wildlife Society – The purpose of this organization is to provide opportunities of gathering & interaction to anyone interested in any aspect of wildlife; provide opportunities for students to gain experience in the various aspects of wildlife, natural resource management, and stewardship; and promote proper stewardship of natural resources.

GREEK SOCIAL FRATERNITIES & SORORITIES

Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the campus governing body for the DSU fraternities affiliated nationally with the National Interfraternity Council.

Panhellenic Council (NPC) is composed of Greek women interested in strengthening the bonds among the sororities. Its purposes are to maintain a high standard of sorority life and interfraternity relationships within the university, to further intellectual accomplishment and sound scholarship, and to cooperate with the college administration in the maintenance of high social standards.

National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC) is an umbrella organization for seven historically black, international Greek letter Fraternities and Sororities. The council promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

Associated Greek Body – The AGB mission is to collaborate with all governing Greek Council and their membership to explore and engage is multicultural awareness and educational programming for all social Greek members.

PROFESSIONAL GROUPS

Accounting Honor Society – This organization supports students & their faculty to promote professional development for undergraduates majoring in Accounting.

Alpha Eta Rho – The purpose of this organization is to actively associate interested students of Aviation with leaders and executives in the industry.

American Chemical Society – This organization supports students & their faculty to promote professional development, mentoring & peer support mechanisms for undergraduates majoring in the chemical society. Follow us on Instagram!

Career Ambassadors – Ambassadors are selected each semester and volunteer and network with potential employers. They promote career building and helpful services for students looking to further their career on-campus and off. Follow us on Instagram!

Community Development Student Organization – The purpose of this organization is to promote excellence, leadership, unity and organization to community development graduate students, faculty, and professionals; increase interpersonal relationships between CD graduate students, faculty and professionals; providing an avenue for discussion, innovation, entrepreneurship, camaraderie and experience by encouraging interaction with local communities while in the confines of academia; and increase national recognition for university community development programs & promote community development as a growing & much needed career field.

Criminal Justice Association – The purpose of this organization is to promote interest in the Criminal Justice field & give a better understanding of the Criminal Justice field.

Delta Reading Council – An affiliate of the International Reading Association, the Delta Reading Council is an organization dedicated to assisting local area educators in their pursuit of knowledge that will be helpful in the area of reading instruction. The Delta Reading Council meets once each semester.  Student members may attend the state and/or international conference each school year.

DSU Mississippi Association for Middle Level Education (MAMLE) – DSU Mississippi for Middle Level Education is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to improving education for students who are in grades 5-8.  Student members may attend the state conference each Spring.

DSU Mississippi Early Childhood Association – (MECA) Mississippi Early Childhood Association is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to improving the quality of care and education of young children in Mississippi.  DSU/MECA is an affiliate group. The membership consists of persons concerned about:

  1. Providing opportunity for professional growth as an early childhood educator.
  2. Activating constructive legislation to safeguard the welfare and enhance the educational opportunities of our youngest children.
  3. Utilizing talents of parents, teachers, administrators, social workers, medical personnel, and other persons interested in young children.

Meetings are held on a regular basis each semester.  Student members may attend the state conference each fall.

Mathematical Association of America (MAA) – The purpose of this organization is to encourage students to continue study in the mathematical sciences and consider a career and to provide opportunities to meet with other Math students & encourage participation in student activities.

MS Professional Educators (MPE) – The purpose of the organization is to foster high ideals of the education professions; promote interest in education; promote the welfare of students & educators; provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to work cooperatively in their curriculum area; increase knowledge & understanding of pre-service teachers through a variety of educational opportunities; bring relevant issues about the needs of students to the attention of pre-service teachers; and cooperate with agencies & organizations working for the best interest of students.

Psi Chi – Better known as the Psychology Club is open for the general enlightenment & education of members and to bring these members together to share common interests of Psychology and similar disciplines.

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) – DSU hosts the Sigma Alpha Eta Chapter of NSSLHA. This organizations is part of the national organization for students interested in studying communication sciences and disorders. NSSLHA was founded in 1972 and is the only official national student association recognized by the American Language Hearing Association (ASHA). NSSLHA has chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities with approximately 13,000 members nationwide.

Student Association of Family & Consumer Sciences – This organization was established so the FCS majors can contribute fully to the growth & promotion of Family & Consumer Sciences & add to their own professional growth.

Student Association of Future Healthcare Professionals (SAFHP). The purpose of this organization is to provide educational events and promote training opportunities of a quality nature for students who have future goals of working in healthcare organizations. Also, Delta State University is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives Higher Education Network and the SAFHP is the recognized entity.

Student Nurses Association (SNA) – The purpose of this organization is to foster communication among the members of the nursing student body & between the nursing student body & faculty; to promote a better understanding of the professional nursing program on campus & in the community; and to promote & encourage participation in community affairs & activities which promote improved health care.

Women in Aviation /Delta 22s – The purpose of this organization is to champion women’s professional growth and enrichment in the aviation fields by providing opportunities for sharing information and networking, education, fostering a sense of community & increasing public awareness of women in the industry.
