Staff Council’s Employees of the Month for 2007
January 2007The Staff Council congratulates Dameon Shaw, Secretary to the Director of Annual Giving at the DSU Foundation, for being selected Employee of the Month for January, 2007. Dameon was born and raised in Shaw, Mississippi. He attended grammar school at McEvans Elementary and graduated from Shaw High School. He received a BBA degree from Delta State and is currently a MBA candidate. Dameon is a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and is the proud father of two daughters and three godchildren. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In addition, Dameon is Mayor of Shaw. He has been active in community service since he was a teenager and strongly encourages volunteerism in his community. He enjoys playing basketball, tennis and reading. His co-workers say he represents the university with dignity and constantly thinks ‘outside the box’ to improve operations and efficiency. DSU is lucky to have Dameon Shaw! |
February 2007The Staff Council is pleased to announce that Sally Rogers, Administrative Secretary to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, was chosen Employee of the Month for February. Sally was born and raised in Memphis. She and her husband Fred moved to Cleveland in 1972 to open a family business. They have two sons, Brent and Stoney. Sally joined the DSU family in 1989 as Senior Secretary in the Biology Department and was promoted to her current position in 2002. Sally is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she is Chair of Church Life. She enjoys reading, entertaining, and being involved with activities in which her grandchildren participate. We are proud of Sally for taking good care of the many students and faculty in Arts and Sciences! |
March 2007Congratulations to Marilyn Read, Administrative Secretary in Graduate and Continuing Studies, for being selected Employee of the Month for March. Marilyn was born and raised in Greenville, MS. She and her husband John reside in Leland and have one daughter, Elizabeth, a DSU student. Marilyn came to DSU in 2002 as Research Associate in Institutional Research and joined Graduate and Continuing Studies in October 2003. She is an active member of First Baptist Church in Leland and is pursuing a BBA degree in Management. Marilyn enjoys reading and following the DSU cross country team of which her daughter is member. She is also secretary of the Delta Sigma Lambda honor society at DSU and a member of Delta Mu Delta honor society. We celebrate Marilyn for her care for individual students, faculty, and staff and for helping DSU ‘establish ongoing, positive relationships between the university and the community’. Way to go, Marilyn! |
April 2007Congratulations to Laura Fleeman, Graphic Designer in University Relations, for being selected Employee of the Month for April. Laura is originally from Rolling Fork, MS. After graduating from the MS School for Math and Science in 1999, she came to Delta State University, where she earned degrees in Graphic Design and Photography. In January, 2006, Laura was employed as the first full-time graphic designer at Delta State. She enjoys reading, photography, gardening, and playing with her min-pin, Frankie. We appreciate Laura for her talent and determination for perfection, especially for the large part she played this month in the creation of the Dave "Boo" Ferriss Museum. |
May 2007Congratulations to Wanda Ray, Archivist Assistant, for being selected Employee of the Month for May, 2007. Wanda and her husband Bobby are the parents of two adult sons, Dwaine and Steve, and the proud grandparents of Morgan and Austin Ray. Wanda came to the DSU Archives and Museum in November, 2005, and feels her employment there is perfectly suited for her, as she is a lifelong resident of Bolivar County and is very interested in the historical events of Bolivar County and the Mississippi Delta. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and reading. She is also active in the American Legion Auxiliary at the local, state and national levels. We appreciate you, Wanda! |
June 2007The Staff Council is pleased to announce Melissa Kitchens, Communications Officer in the DSU Police Department, as Employee of the Month for June, 2007. Melissa is a Cleveland native and is married to Jeffrey Kitchens, a DSU nursing major. She graduated from cosmetology school in 2004 and began working at DSU in November, 2005. She is a hairstylist in her spare time and loves spending time with her family, reading, bike riding, and swimming. In addition to her own duties, Melissa has recently filled in for the department secretary who was on medical leave. For her dedication to getting the job done, Melissa has been recognized by her boss and co-workers. Congratulations, Melissa! |
July 2007Congratulations to Sarah Mosley, Administrative Secretary in the Division of Graduate and Continuing Studies, selected Employee of the Month for July, 2007. Sarah was born and raised in Clarksdale and later moved to Decator, Alabama, where she graduated from Decatur High School. Sarah joined the DSU Staff in February of 1989 as Senior Clerk in the newly formed Telecommunications Department. She was promoted to Data Base Manager and then Telecommunications Services Manager. In January, 2005, Sarah transferred to Graduate Studies as Senior Secretary and has recently been promoted to her current position. During July she handled both positions, as well as assisted with the duties of a third position until a replacement could be found. According to Tye Jackson, Assistant Dean, this honor is long overdue for Sarah for she is always willing to go above and beyond. Way to go, Sarah! |
August 2007The Staff Council is pleased to announce Felicia Brinkley as Employee of the Month for August, 2007. Felicia is a native of Cleveland and a graduate of Cleveland High School. She and husband Marc are the proud parents of son Grayson Kael Brinkley, and she enjoys all things creative–helping her mom with catering, decorating wedding cakes, and arranging flowers–and spending time with her family. Felicia came to Delta State in January of 2002 as Secretary in Student Financial Assistance. In August each year the SFA office is inundated with telephone calls from parents and students preparing to come to DSU in the fall. This year a call count showed that Felicia personally answered between 450 and 500 telephone calls each day during the month. According to Ann Margaret Mullins, She handled the responsibility without complaint, only taking a break to breathe. We are proud of you, Felicia! |
September 2007
Congratulations to Marcie Moore, Assessment Analyst in Institutional Research and Planning, for being selected Employee of the Month for September, 2007. Marcie is a native of Covington, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Community Development at Delta State. Marcie came to Delta State in 2004 and is active in the Cleveland community. She is a member of First Baptist Church, the American Association for University Women, Exchange Club, and the Cleveland Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce. She enjoys exercising, reading, sewing, and shopping. Because of a staff shortage in her office during the last few months, she has taken on numerous additional responsibilities and projects. According to her supervisor, her work ethic is phenomenal and her ‘can-do’ attitude is infectious. We are proud of you, Marcie! |
November 2007Congratulations go to Cynthia Rocconi, Administrative Secretary in Library Services, for being selected Employee of the Month for November, 2007. Cynthia was born and raised in Cleveland and graduated from Cleveland High School. She joined the Roberts-LaForge Library staff in August of 2001. Cynthia and her husband Jody have three children–Marie, Cortnie, and Kelsie and one grandon, Ethan. She is a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. Cynthia played an invaluable part in the success of the 2007 Mississippi Library Association Conference, which was held in October in Vicksburg. This included preparing 509 registration packets, distributing 1,428 event tickets, producing posters and signs, and making sure every detail was addressed. Joi and Jeff are grateful to you for your help, Cynthia, and we salute you! |
December 2007 Congratulations to Sharon Krugler, Senior Secretary in the Alumni Office, for being selected Staff Employee of the Month for December, 2007. Although Sharon was born in Tacoma, WA, she was raised in Cleveland and graduated from Bayou Academy. Sharon came to Delta State in 2004 as a Research Associate in the Office of Institutional Research. After a short break, she returned to the Alumni Office in May of 2006, where she enjoys meeting new people, keeping in contact with DSU alumni, and planning events like Iuka and Pig Pickin’. The loving mother of two children, Kalie and Jon Caleb, Sharon enjoys scrapbooking and attacking jigsaw puzzles. We appreciate everything you do, Sharon!
