Camesha Benson

January 2008

 

Camesha Benson, Senior Secretary of the Division of Teacher Education since 2005, as been named Employee of the Month for January, 2008.  Camesha is a native of Water Valley, MS, and is the daughter of Mr. George Benson and the late Mrs. Maudie Benson.  She has one sister, Arencther Benson, and a nephew, Xavier Benson.  Camesha graduated from Water Valley High School and Northwest Community College.  In 2005 she received her BBA degree in Office Administration and Computer Information Systems from DSU and plans to begin graduate school this August.  Camesha relaxes by enjoying religious activities, serving as co-advisor for God’s Anointed Voices and coordinator/co-actress in Nebo Ministries Stage Productions.  If you ask the Teacher Education faculty, they would tell you Camesha always goes above and beyond the call of duty to help keep the division running smoothly.  Our hats are off to you, Camesha Benson!

 

Diane Coleman

February 2008

The DSU Staff Council wishes to congratulate Diane Coleman, Library Assistant II in the Roberts-LaForge Library, for being selected Employee of the Month for February, 2008.  Diane is a native of Drew, graduating from Drew High School.  She and husband Earl Coleman (a DSU grad) have three children – son Richie Coleman and daughters Cindy Coleman and Jenny Kurts, both DSU graduates – and a 6 year old granddaughter, Isabella Kurts.  Diane joined the Library staff in 1989 and has worked in the Circulation, Government Documents, and presently Interlibrary Loans departments.  She was nominated by a faculty member who says she always goes the extra mile in locating rare books and other materials for research use.  Diane is an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and loves sharing her spare time with her family.  Keep up the good work, Diane!

 Chris "Wolf" Barnes

 March 2008

 

Congratulations to Chris "Wolf" Barnes in Facilities Management being being selected Employee of the Month for March, 2008.  A native of Wichita, Kansas, Chris moved to Cleveland in 1992, when his father accepted a faculty position at DSU.  Chris graduated from Cleveland High School and is currently pursuing a CIS degree at DSU.  In 2006 Chris was hired as a stage hand in the Bologna Performing Arts Center and was promoted to Electrician in Facilities Management later that year.  A multi-talented individual, Chris enjoys singing at church and trips on his motorcycle.  He (a swordfighter) and his wife Megan are members of the Society of Creative Anachronism, an organization dedicated to researching and recreating pre-17th century European history.  His long-term dream is to be a chef.  Chris says he "enjoys working at DSU with its friendly atmosphere, where everyone gets along very well."  Chris, your co-workers salute you for your excellence, your calm confidence, and your pleasant disposition!

 

Veronica Tucker

Congratulations go to Veronica Tucker, Research Analyst in Institutional Research, for being selected Employee of the Month for May.  Veronica is a native of Memphis and received her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi Valley State University and an MBA from DSU.  She and husband Archie Tucker are the proud parents of a son, Jordan.  Veronica came to DSU in 2006 as Research Associate and was recently promoted to Research and Information Specialist for FY2009.  She has also served as Coordinator of the Delta Belles.  Her passions are kids, dancing, and helping others.  Veronica recalls the first time she saw the Employee of the Month on the DSU marquee and would like to thank her co-workers and boss for the opportunity to put her name ‘in lights’!

 

Callie Towles

June 2008

The Staff Council wishes to congratulate Callie Towles for being selected Employee of the Month for June.  Callie is a DSU graduate, having received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in May 2002.  She came to DSU in 2004 as a Research Associate in Institutional Research and moved to Graduate and Continuing Studies in September 2006 as Coordinator of Continuing Studies.  Callie resides in Cleveland with her husband and two children.  She serves as Vice President of the Bolivar County Chapter of the DSU Alumni Association.  She is a member of the North Delta Phi Mu alumnae chapter and is active with the collegiate chapter at DSU.  Callie recently coordinated Kids’ College, a week of educational and entertaining events for children.  We appreciate your hard work, Callie! 

Aulene Brumfield

 

 

 

July 2008

Aulene Brumfield, Senior Secretary in the Division of Management, Marketing and Business Administration, was selected Employee of the Month for July.  Aulene began her DSU career in 1987 as a clerk in the Registrar’s Office, transferred to the Music Department as secretary in 1988, and transferred to Management & Marketing in 1992, working for three different division chairs.  Aulene is a DSU honor graduate, having received her BBA degree in Management in December, 2001.  Aulene and husband Don have lived in Cleveland since 1969 and are celebrating their 40th anniversary in August.  They have two children, Deborah Bell and Craig Brumfield, both DSU grads, and three grandchildren, Nathan Barnett, Dawson Bell and Julianne Bell.  Away from the office Aulene is a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, a member of First Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi, and enjoys sewing, crocheting, and reading.  Thanks for everything you do for the College of Business, Aulene!

 

Barbara McKnight

August 2008

DSU Administrative Staff Council congratulates Barbara McKnight for being named Employee of the Month for August.  Barbara began her DSU career in 1973 as Head Cashier in the Business Office and is now Customer Service Representative in Student Business Services.  Barbara grew up in Cleveland in a large family of nine sisters and three brothers.  She graduated from East Side High School and is currently taking classes at DSU.  She and husband Tony have a son Gaius and two grandchildren, Jared and Taylor.  Besides being elected "President" of her family, Barbara is a Make-A-Wish volunteer, a BPAC ambassador, works with Joy Health and Rehabilitation, and is a funeral director for Byas Funeral Home.  She enjoys shopping and being with her family.  Barbara, we applaud you for your compassionate service to our students during a stressful registration!

 Bobbie Dean

  September 2008

Congratulations to Bobbie Dean for being selected Employee of the Month for September!  Bobbie has lived in the Delta all her life.  She and her husband Scott, a chemical applicator, live in Boyle and have two children, a daughter who graduated from DSU in 2003 with a degree in social work and a son, currently working on a degree in criminal justice at DSU.  Bobbie came to DSU in May of 2005 as a Senior Clerk in Facilities Management and was promoted to Office Coordinator in July, 2008.  When she is not scheduling university vehicles, reporting payroll for a staff of over 75 people, or keeping up with the many other responsibilites of the university facilities management team, she enjoys gardening and attending her granddaughter’s softball games.  We are proud of you, Bobbie, for your dedication to DSU!

 

October 2008

Congratulations to Theresa Holloway, Senior Secretary in Music, for being selected Employee of the Month for October!  The daughter of a career Army sergeant, Theresa was born in Germany and lived in four states before moving to Kansas City, Kansas, at age 10.   She has been "back home" in Mississippi since 1983 and moved to Cleveland in 1990.  She has been employed in the DSU Music Department since September of 1996.  Theresa has two children, Glenn, 21, and Leslie, 17.  Besides taking classes at DSU, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.  We salute Theresa Holloway for her years of dedication to the department and the extra effort she makes daily toward the success of its faculty and students.

 

Patricia Webster

 November 2008

Congratulations go to November’s Employee of the Month, Patricia Webster, Senior Secretary in the Division of Family and Consumer Science.  Born and raised in England, Arkansas, Pat loves the Delta and its flat land.  She completed her BS in Speech, Communication & Broadcasting from the University of Central Arkansas in 1984, where she gained experience in broadcast radio, theater, and the media.  Since then she has worked in radio, child & family services, banking, and retail.  She joined the DSU staff in August 2005.  She loves cycling, reading, cooking and her little Pomeranians, Gizmo and Kasey.  Pat is working on a second bachelor’s degree and planning a master’s program.  Pat enjoys interacting with all the kids, from the tiny ones in the Child Development Center to the diverse group of students in Family and Consumer Science.  Her favorite perk–samples from the Foods Lab!  Coincidentally, Pat and her husband own one half of the radio group that holds the contract to carry Delta State Sports.  Pat, your enthusiasm is contagious!

 

Phyllis Howell

December 2008

 

Congratulations to Phyllis Howell, Administrative Secretary to the Dean, College of Education, for being selected Employee of the Month for December.  Phyllis moved to the Delta from north Georgia and joined the DSU staff in June 2006, when her husband took a job with Baxter.  Her office career has spanned many areas, including a police department, a doctor, an attorney, city government, an international corporation, and two universities.  Phyllis holds an AAS from Westark Community College (now the University of Arkansas Fort Smith) and an AAS from Arkansas State University.  In December she completed her BS in Business Administration from DSU and plans to enter the master’s program in the fall.  She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honorary fraternity.  Phyllis and her husband Mike have two daughters:  Sarah, a junior at Cleveland High School, and Kristin, who graduated from Georgia Tech the same day and with the same degree as her mom!  When she’s not at work, Phyllis enjoys spending time with her family, learning new things, and meeting new people.  We’re proud of you, Phyllis!
