Danny Tharp

January 2005

DSU Police Officer Danny Tharp was chosen as Employee of the Month for January, 2005.  Danny has been employed in the DSU Police Department since December of 2002.  Son of Eugene and Eloise Tharp, Danny was born in Cleveland and educated in the Cleveland School District.  He is married to Carolyn Fay Tharp.  Danny became a certified police officer in 2001 by attending Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy.  For over twenty years he has served with Bolivar County Fire Department District I, having served as chief.  He also has over twenty years’ experience with Bolivar Emergency Management, also having served as chief.  He is a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge and is a certified hazardous materials handler and a medical first responder.   A humble man, his reply to being congratulated for this honor was, “I was just doing my job.”

Gaye Holecek

February 2005

Gaye Holecek was chosen as Employee of the Month for February, 2005.  Gaye has been employed as Senior Secretary in the Division of Family and Consumer Science since 1998.  She came to DSU from Barfield, Lindsey, Gainspoletti & Gladden, CPAs, where she worked four years.  A Cleveland native, Gaye received her BBA degree in Management in 1989 from DSU.  She has two children—Gary, who is a DSU physical plant employee, and Emily, an eighth grader.  Upon receiving her plaque and other gifts, she said, “I am excited, surprised, appreciative, and shocked!”

Patti Boswell

March 2005

March’s Employee of the Month is Patti Boswell, Senior Secretary in the Office of Field Experiences.  Patti is a Cleveland native, was educated in the Cleveland public school system, and attended Delta State.  She and husband Billy Boswell are avid DSU sports fans.  Patti has been employed at DSU since the spring of 1977, serving in Information Technology Services as computer operator, coordinator of computer operations, and user support analyst until June 30, 2004, and then transferring to the College of Education on July 1.  According to supervisor Susan Lee, "Patti is without question one of the most loyal of DSU’s staff.  She is great at her job, a true supporter of our college and so wonderful to our students."  Congratulations, Patti!

Barbara Knight

April 2005

Barbara Knight, Senior Secretary in the Division of Biological and Physical Sciences, was selected Employee of the Month for April. Barbara is a Cleveland native, was educated in the Cleveland public school system, and is currently working toward a degree in child development at Delta State. She is married to Robert Knight and has two stepsons. Coming to DSU after 23 years with Baxter and DuoFast, Barbara was employed in Telecommunications from May, 2000 to December, 2003, when she transferred to the sciences. According to division chair John Tiftickjian, ‘Barbara has been the glue that holds the division together. I can’t imagine the division surviving without her.’ Congratulations, Barbara!

Bill Moses

May 2005

Bill Moses, Newswriter and Director of Photography in University Relations, was chosen Employee of the Month for May, 2005.  He was born in Greenwood and graduated from Cleveland High School.  Bill’s educational credentials include a BSE in Social Studies from Delta State, a BA in Photography from Sam Houston State University, and a Master of Education in History from Delta State.  He came to Delta State in September of 1998 and has taught journalism classes.  Bill resides in Ruleville with his wife Teresa, 2 daughters, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.  He has 2 grandchildren and enjoys yard work.  We honor him for his over-and-beyond service to DSU students, faculty and staff.  Congratulations, Bill!

  

Donna Fitzgerald

June 2005

We congratulate Donna Fitzgerald for being chosen Employee of the Month for the month of June.  A Natchez native, Donna attended Co-Lin Junior College, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Delta State, where she met her husband Don.  She was employed at Delta State in August of 1989 and is currently Payroll Officer, primarily responsible for paying our students and other hourly employees.  Donna has two daughters, one son (a DSU graduate), and one granddaughter and resides in Cleveland.  She enjoys tennis and all DSU sports, especially baseball.  According to her supervisor Becky Foster, “Donna always takes the time to get to know our students and make them feel at home; I would say that she is one of our best recruiters!”

 

Alice Dixon

July 2005

Alice Dixon, Custodian in the Physical Plant, Chapel, and both Natatoriums, has been selected Employee of the Month for the month of July.  Alice is originally from Shaw and currently resides in Cleveland.  She attends Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church.  She has been employed at DSU since November of 1997.  Alice loves being around and doing things for people.  She cares for her mother, Ruby Lee Dixon of Shaw, who was involved in a house explosion in 2000 and still requires physical therapy.  She also takes special care of the water aerobics seniors as they arrive and leave from class.  We extend our congratulations to Alice for her sunny attitude and excellent customer service!  

 

   
Rhonda Williams

August 2005

The Administrative Staff Council would like to congratulate Rhonda Williams for being selected Employee of the Month for the month of August, 2005.  Rhonda is a lifelong resident of the Cleveland area, currently residing in Boyle with her husband Gallen and three daughters. She was employed at DSU in September, 2001 as secretary in the Department of Aerospace Studies.  That program ended in August of 2003, and Rhonda began working part-time in the DSU Post Office in November.  She was employed full-time in July, 2004.  In her spare time, Rhonda enjoys playing the piano.  She loves working with her colleagues at Delta State.  She is a loyal and dependable employee who goes above and beyond her job responsibilities every day.  DSU appreciates you, Rhonda!
   
Frankie Mae Jones

September 2005

The Administrative Staff Council recognizes Frankie Mae Jones as Employee of the Month for the month of September, 2005.  Frankie Mae is a native of Belzoni, Mississippi, and now resides in Cleveland.  She has two children and loves going to church.  Frankie Mae has been employed in the DSU Laundry for over 16 years.  Her supervisor and fellow employees say she is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.  Congratulations to you, Frankie Mae Jones! 
   

 

Marcia Lishman

October 2005

Marcia Lishman has been named Employee ofthe Month for the month of October, 2005.  Marcia has worked at Delta State for 16 years, beginning as a part-time clerk in the Business Office located in Kethley Hall.  Her position was made full-time in 1997, and she was recently promoted to Assistant Director of Student Business Services.  Marcia is a DSU graduate in biology, and both of her children, Jennifer and Josh, are DSU graduates.  She and her husband Paul reside outside Cleveland.  Marcia enjoys her job very much and loves the opportunity to work with students. Way to go, Marcia!

Cheryl Ballard

November 2005

The Administrative Staff Council congratulates Cheryl Ballard, Administrative Secretary in Academic Affairs, for being chosen Employee of the Month for November, 2005.  Cheryl began her DSU employment as temporary secretary in Institutional Research in 1997, and transferred to Academic Affairs in 1999 as Senior Secretary.  She was promoted to Administrative Secretary in 2002.  Cheryl has lived in Cleveland for most of her life and graduated from Cleveland High School.  She and her husband Ted have three children–Kedar, Cody, and Katie.  She is currently working on her BBA in Office Administration. Cheryl says she enjoys working at DSU with "everyone that comes through the door."

Shelia Martin

December 2005

Congratulations to Sheila Martin, Senior Secretary/Test Proctor in the Department of Commercial Aviation, for being selected as December’s Employee of the Month.  A native of Cleveland, Sheila has been with Delta State for a total of 18 years.  She worked as secretary in Audiology/Speech Pathology for six years before moving to MDOC at Parchman.  She returned to DSU’s Commercial Aviation Department in 1994.  Sheila has two daughters, Monica Beach and Madison Martin, and one granddaughter, Raegan Beach.  Sheila enjoys her job and the opportunity she has to help each student further his/her education at Delta State.
