Adult Enrichment Programs 

Registration: Registration for Non-Credit Continuing Education Classes will be held ONLINE.

Cancellation Policy.  No refunds are given after the registration deadline has passed, the day before the course meets, the day of the course, or the day after the course has started. If DSU cancels a class for any reason, a full refund will be issued. DSU Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel or postpone classes, or combine and substitute qualified instructors when necessary.

Fall 2020 Schedule

Sign Language

  • Dates/Times:  September 28 through October 19.  Zoom sessions will be held each Monday at 6pm
  • Instruction Method: This course will use Canvas online dashboard for class handouts and additional material not covered in the weekly Zoom sessions.   Participants are required to attend each zoom session. If you wish to enroll in the class, but can not attend the 6pm online course, please contact our office for details.
  • Cost: $50.00
  • Details: This beginner course will focus on building a functional repertoire of vocabulary that will allow you to develop basic expressive and receptive functional sign language skills necessary to communicate with individuals who are Deaf and hard of hearing in community and business settings. Course content includes learning vocabulary, numbers, fingerspelling, information regarding Deaf culture, as well as ways to interact in basic business or community settings. Participants will become familiar with the sign language continuum and various sign language methods with the focus of the class using Signed Exact English (SEE) and introductory remarks on American Sign Language (ASL)
  • If you are unable to attend the live zoom each week, a recorded session will be posted through the canvas shell for participants.

Introduction to Grant Writing and Grant Implementation

  • Dates/Times: October 6-29.  Zoom sessions will be every Tuesday and Thursday at Noon.
  • Instruction Method: This course will use Canvas online dashboard for class handouts and material.  Participants are expected to attend each zoom session listed above.  If you are interested in taking the class, but are not available to attend one or more of the session, please contact our office for details.
  • Cost: $60.00
  • Details:  This course is best suited for community members, teachers, and non-profits.  Participants will learn the process of each grant writing step and how to implement the grant once it is awarded.

Beginner Drawing

  • Dates/Times: October 17 at 9am to 5pm (with lunch break)
  • Instructor: Chet Oguz
  • Instruction Method: This class will be held face to face on the DSU Campus.
  • Cost: $95.00
  • Details: Participants will learn the fundamentals of drawing including observation, mark making, shading, perspective and composition.

The Textured Pumpkin

  • Date/Time: October 19 and 20 @ 5:30pm
  • Instructor: Jessica Byrd
  • Instruction Method: This class will be held face to face on the DSU Campus.  Participant MUST ATTEND both days due to a multi-step process.
  • Cost: $30.00
  • Details: Participants will learn the process of forming modeling paste to a canvas then painting with acrylic paints to form a beautiful fall pumpkin.  This textured painting will be done on an 8×8 canvas.

Holiday Textured Canvas

  • Date/Time: November 16 and 17 @ 5:30pm
  • Instructor: Jessica Byrd
  • Instruction Method: This class will be held face to face on the DSU campus.  Participants MUST ATTEND both days due to a multi-step process.                                                      
  • Cost: $35.00
  • Details:  Participants will learn the process of forming modeling paste to a canvas then painting the acrylic paints to form a gorgeous nativity canvas scene.  This textured painting will be done on an 8×10 canvas.
