Ashli Gorton (center), senior Fashion Merchandising major from Leland, and Molly Slonaker (right), senior Fashion Merchandising major from Madison, are shown with their entries for the Apparel Design Competition at the Dallas Fashion Career Day, sponsored by Fashion Group International. Both garments were shown on the runway, in addition to a swimsuit submitted by Gorton. Pictured with them is Dr. Jan Haynes, Chair of the Division of Family of Consumer Sciences and Professor of Fashion Merchandising in the College of Education and Human Sciences. There were over 500 entries in various apparel/design categories submitted to the annual competition, with fewer than 40% accepted for the runway.

Also, at the recently held Mississippi Association of Family and Consumer Sciences conference, Gorton placed first in the student design competition and Slonaker placed second. Kristen Price (not pictured), junior Fashion Merchandising major from Madison, placed third.
