Junior College Transfer Credit
Junior College Transfer Credit at DSU Department of Music
The Mississippi CC Articulation Agreement states that 4-year institutions will accept:
- Music Theory MUS 1211, 1214, 1221, 1224 – 10 hours (8 hours needed at DSU)
- Music Survey MUS 1123 – 3 hours
- Piano MUA 1511, 1521, 2511, 2521- 4 hours
- Applied Major – 8 hours
- Ensemble – 4 hours
The Grade of C is required in all music classes to count towards graduation and transfer—if not, the course or a similar course must be taken again at DSU. This also applies to pre-requisites for course sequences.
Sophomore theory validation exams are taken by Community College transfers:
- Used to confirm a student’s knowledge of the material covered in MUS 250, 251, 252, 253 at Delta State.
- A student must score a 70% or higher on each of the content sections to receive credit for sophomore theory coursework completed at a junior/community college. (According to the articulation agreement between the Mississippi IHL and the Community College Board, only the credits from first-year theory courses will be automatically accepted to transfer from the community colleges to any public university in Mississippi.)
- May be administered by computerized testing for most sections.
- Sample exams available online on the DSU Department of Music web site.
- Remediation is the responsibility of the individual student, through self-study or by enrolling in one or more theory courses recommended by the music theory faculty.
