Department of Music

Music Student Enrichment (MuSE) Campaign

The MuSE Campaign started in 2017, as an initiative of the Music Department to raise funds for the improvement of the music programs and facilities. The Department of Music offers an active and innovative program providing an intensive and challenging experience with emphasis on the individual student. The Department prepares music majors for careers in the field of music and provides supportive instruction to both majors and non-majors in the history, theory, teaching, and performance of music to cultivate the development of musical skills, knowledge, and appreciation. Music students are regular performers at athletic events and other community and regional events.

Delta State University, home of the Statesmen and the Fighting Okra, is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Delta State University is a public institution providing a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate curriculum to over 4,000 students representing all of the states and more than 20 countries. Dozens of degree programs on the undergraduate level provide educational opportunities in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Health Sciences, and in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing. Graduate programs on the master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral levels provide advanced training in a broad range of disciplines..

Our diverse and unique Department of Music offers a devoted and genuine educational experience. We are a family-oriented campus where our professors know students by their name. Delta State is committed to providing an environment that fosters discovery and creativity.

Dean’s Message

Dear Alumni, Faculty, Students, and Friends,

The Department of Music is a strong, vibrant program with faculty that are accomplished musicians and student centered.  The Department  is providing a well-rounded education, engaging students in university and community events, and enhancing the lives of all of our students through music.  The DSU Music program provides over 60% of the State of Mississippi’s Music Educators and a significant number of music educators in the surrounding states.  Our students and faculty are participating and being recognized in worldwide events and are establishing relationships with music departments across the world.   They are also enriching the lives of our community and state and all those they encounter with music.
