DSU’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee invites you to a virtual presentation by Dr. Kimberly Kelly in conjunction with the exhibition In Control: Embroidered Work by Katrina Majkut currently on view in the Fielding Wright Art Gallery.

Kimberly Kelly, Ph.D., is Director of Gender Studies and Associate Professor of Sociology at Mississippi State University. Dr. Kelly has studied abortion politics for two decades, with emphases on evangelical anti-abortion activism including crisis pregnancy centers and ‘post-abortion syndrome’ claims-making. Her current project is an interview and ethnographic study of abortion politics in Mississippi encompassing anti-abortion activists, pro-abortion rights activists, reproductive freedom advocates, and the women who seek abortions at the state’s lone abortion clinic. In this presentation, Dr. Kelly will address the climate surrounding abortion in Mississippi and the recent Supreme Court case, Dobbs V Jackson Women’s Health Organization and its implications for all women in the U.S.
