2.2.23 Winter Weather Advisory (8:59 AM)

Significant rainfall and some icing will continue throughout the day for the affected areas under the Ice Storm Warning including Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington Counties. Accumulations of rain and below freezing temperatures could cause hazardous driving conditions. Travel is strongly discouraged.

Out of an abundance of caution, Delta State University will remain closed until 8:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 3. This includes day and night classes. Normal operations and classes will resume on Friday morning.

University administration will continue to monitor this evolving weather event and will reassess the situation to determine if an extended closure is necessary. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has extended the Ice Storm Warning for Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington Counties until 9:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2. Significant icing is still expected in these areas with additional accumulations and below freezing temperatures. Difficult travel conditions are possible. Travel is strongly discouraged.

Out of an abundance of caution, Delta State University will remain closed until 12:15 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2. Classes will resume at that time.

University administration will continue to monitor this evolving weather event and will reassess the situation to determine if an extended closure is necessary. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has upgraded the Winter Storm Advisory for Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington Counties to an Ice Storm Warning, that is in effect until noon, Wednesday, Feb. 1. Significant icing is expected in these areas with accumulations of around a quarter of an inch. Difficult travel conditions are possible. Travel is strongly discouraged.

Out of an abundance of caution, Delta State University will remain closed until Thursday, Feb. 2. This includes all night classes.

University administration will continue to monitor this evolving weather event and will reassess the situation to determine if an extended closure is necessary. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Winter Storm Advisory for Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington Counties, that is in effect until noon, Wednesday, Feb. 1. Freezing rain is expected in these areas with accumulations of around two tenths of an inch. Difficult travel conditions are possible.

Out of an abundance of caution, Delta State University will close at 12:15 p.m., today (Tuesday, Jan. 31), until noon Wednesday, Feb. 1.

University administration will continue to monitor this evolving weather event and will reassess the situation tomorrow morning to determine if an extended closure is necessary.
