1.22.24 Return to Normal Operations on Tuesday (3:26 PM)

Delta State University will return to normal university operations on Tuesday, January 23. The Statesman Shelf Food Pantry will be open today, Monday, January 22, from 4:00-6:00pm, for students, faculty, and staff needing to restock non-perishable supplies. Please bring your Statesman Shelf reusable grocery bags with you.

Delta State’s Facilities Management team has been working diligently to remove the ice from campus. However, traces of ice and slick areas remain. As students, faculty, and staff return, please use caution.

Those students and employees facing travel issues on Tuesday should contact their instructor or supervisor. Students, faculty, and staff should continue to monitor weather conditions and exercise caution and good judgment when traveling.

1.19.24 Continued Remote Operations through Monday (3:24 PM)

The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning from 6:00pm today until Sunday, January 21, at noon, for Bolivar County and surrounding areas. While the temperature may rise slightly above freezing during the day on Sunday, ice will likely still be present along and north of the Highway 82 line, making travel conditions difficult. Re-freezing each night is anticipated, which will cause continued difficult travel conditions, and travel is strongly discouraged. Click here for updated weather information.

Due to these continued weather conditions, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of the campus community, Delta State’s Emergency Response Team has made the decision to continue operating remotely through Monday, January 22. Essential, critical services will continue to operate on campus, with normal university operations conducted remotely.

Spring classes will continue to meet virtually through Monday evening. Faculty should communicate with their students via Canvas. Students without remote Canvas access and/or loss of power will not be penalized for missing class, but should contact their instructor as soon as possible regarding the absence.

The Academic Calendar (i.e. last day to drop/add classes, register, etc.) will be adjusted, and new dates will be distributed to the campus early next week.

Employees are expected to work from home, as permissible, and to stay in regular communication with their supervisor. Employees who are currently working on campus are encouraged to ensure that offices/buildings that they unlock are locked upon departure.

DSU’s Young-Mauldin Dining Hall is open for any students, faculty, and staff with meal plans. Modified daily hours are:

  • Brunch: 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Dinner: 5:00pm-8:00pm

The Statesman Shelf Food Pantry will be open from 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, January 20, for students, faculty, and staff needing to restock non-perishable supplies. Please bring your Statesman Shelf reusable grocery bags with you.

For residence hall students who have not yet returned to campus, move-in is scheduled for Monday, January 22, from 4:00-7:00pm. Residential students are encouraged to monitor their Delta State OkraMail for more information, as well as local weather and travel advisories for your area.
