Texas Strong, the eighteen-minute film Daresha was commissioned to direct for an ACLU series on transgender rights, focuses on Kimberly Shappley’s fight to defeat the Texas bathroom bill which would prohibit her trans daughter Kai from using the girls’ bathroom. Winner of two Webby Awards, an “Outstanding Short Documentary” Emmy, and viewed over 3.5 million times, this short film has shifted the hearts and minds of viewers all over the world.
