Areas of Study in Entertainment Industry Studies

Audio Engineering Technology

The Audio Engineering Technology concentration is for the student who desires a career as a recording engineer, live sound engineer, audio editor, or production assistant. Many of our students come from a background of formal music training although this is not a requirement. In our experience, successful audio engineering technology students have strong problem-solving skills and proficiency with technology while possessing outstanding interpersonal communication skills.

Entertainment Industry Entrepreneurship

The Entertainment Industry Entrepreneurship concentration is for the student who desires a career as an artist manager, songwriter, promoter, business owner, or performer. Many students come from a background of formal music training although this is not a requirement. Successful entertainment industry entrepreneurship students have strong collaboration skills and are typically innovative with a desire to pursue a career in the business side of the industry.

Minors in Entertainment Industry Studies

The Minors in Entertainment Industry Studies consist of 21 hours of study in either Audio Engineering Technology or Entertainment Industry Entrepreneurship. These minors are for Delta State University students who desire to gain real-world knowledge of concepts, skills, and practices in today’s evolving entertainment industry.

Delta Music Institute Scholarships

Delta State’s Entertainment Industry Studies program is more affordable than many of its contemporaries offering similar opportunities. At DSU, we’re going to automatically consider you for scholarships. Some scholarships you may be considered for include opportunities for majors in entertainment industry studies, participants in DMI leadership activities, rising sophomore students enrolled in the Delta Music Institute entertainment industry program, and outstanding musicians who participate in one of the three DMI commercial music bands. Students may also be eligible for non-program specific scholarship opportunities.

Program Goals

The mission of the DMI is to provide students with a broad and thorough education in the technological, business, and creative areas of the music and entertainment industry. In keeping with the overall mission of the University, the DMI program encourages significant student-faculty interactions through multiple opportunities for project-based learning, directs students to develop respect for different ethnic, and socioeconomic groups through a common interest in entertainment industry studies and guides students in developing, assessing, and expressing their own thoughts effectively.

Tuition at DSU covers the cost of classes. Select Delta Music Institute courses may require additional fees. Students pursuing a degree and concentrations in the Entertainment Industry Studies curriculum are required to purchase specific hardware and related software and accessories to participate in the EIS program.
