Third annual DSU Flute Day scheduled for March 3

High school, junior college and advanced middle school flutists are invited to visit Delta State for a day of flute clinics, performances, rehearsals, and a culminating group flute choir concert March 3 for the third annual DSU Flute Day.

The schedule features guest flute artist Jennifer Whitehead (instructor of woodwinds, Northwest Community College); Dr. Shelley Collins, associate professor of music; Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, professor of music; and flutemaker Erik Nugent.

Highlights of the day will include a faculty recital at 2 p.m. with Collins, Whitehead and Shimizu, a masterclass with Whitehead at 11:30 a.m., and a presentation, “The Flutemaker’s Point of View,” with Nugent at 10 a.m. The final event of the day will be a performance by all flute students at 5 p.m. Both recitals are free and open to the public.
