Area families can earn $25 per family member for participating in a research study being conducted at DSU by Rural Embodiment and Community Health (REACH) June 7 – 27. The study tests how living conditions and the environment impact parasite infection risk and intestinal and immune health, in order to combat health inequities. The $25 will be issued as a Walmart or Dollar General gift card, participants choice. Screenings will be conducted Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., or by appointment.
Who can participate?
- Adults and children of all ages
- Families with school-aged children especially needed
- Participants must be able to make two visits to the Delta State University Student Union (Highway 8 West, 3rd floor by the elevators) in Cleveland, MS
Participation includes
- Brief surveys on household resources and health history
- Finger-prick blood sample collection to test anemia risk, immune markers, and cholesterol/glucose levels
- Stool sample collection and drop-off within 72 hours of participation, using provided collection kit
Time and compensation
- This study will take approximately 75 minutes for one adult and one child, plus 30 minutes for each additional family member
- Your family will receive $25 per family member who completes participation (interview, initial data collection, stool sample)
- All compensation will be paid after stool samples are received
