DSU flag to fly at half-staff in honor of Nevin Sledge

The Delta State University flag will continue to fly at half-staff through sunset on Saturday, October 21, in memory of Delta State alumnus Nevin Sledge of Cleveland, Mississippi. Senator Sledge passed away on October 13, 2023. He was 102

Throughout his remarkable life, Senator Sledge excelled in various fields and made a lasting impact on those around him. He dedicated himself to multiple endeavors and left an indelible mark on the automotive industry, politics, and agriculture.

In addition to his accomplishments as a businessman, he served as a State Senator for nine years. His passion for public service led him to advocate tirelessly for the rights and well-being of his constituents. Senator Sledge’s leadership and integrity garnered widespread recognition during his tenure as a senator.

Senator Sledge was a lifelong learner who treasured education. He graduated from Cleveland High School before attending Culver Military Academy and Delta State Teachers College. These formative years instilled in him a thirst for knowledge that he carried throughout his life.

Friends and family will be invited to pay their respects during visitation services on October 19, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home located at 206 Bishop Rd, Cleveland, Mississippi. A celebration of Senator Sledge’s remarkable life will follow on October 20th at First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. (1100 Hwy 8, Cleveland, Mississippi).
