Delta State’s flag to fly at half-staff in memory of Eloise Walker

The Delta State University flag will fly at half-staff Friday, Oct. 7, through sunset Sunday, Oct. 9, in memory of retired elementary education professor Eloise Walker.  Walker passed away on Sept. 30, 2022. She was 92.

Walker was born June 11, 1930, in Rolling Fork, Miss., to Lucien and Irene Wesley Stratton.  She married longtime Delta State alumni director Hugh Ellis Walker, Sr. on Aug. 19, 1951, in Rolling Fork. After serving for a decade in the Clinton, Miss. school district, Walker joined Delta State in 1970, serving as an associate professor and coordinator of the undergraduate elementary education degree program in the College of Education until 1993. During her tenure at Delta State, Walker set the bar for high standards and exemplary teaching, leaving a legacy for quality educator preparation that continues to this day.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Ray Funeral Home of Cleveland, Miss.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at First Baptist Church, located at 101 N Bolivar Ave., Cleveland, MS.
