The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a winter storm warning until January 11 at 12:00am. Heavy mixed precipitation is anticipated with total snow and sleet accumulations up to three inches and ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous, causing slippery road conditions. Click here for updated weather information.
Due to these deteriorating weather conditions, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of the campus community, Delta State’s Emergency Response Team has made the decision to close the campus tomorrow, Friday, January 10. Essential, critical services will continue to operate.
Before leaving today, we ask employees to lock offices/buildings upon departure. To help prepare the campus for the bitter cold temperatures, the Facilities Management team members team has begun distributing ice melt at building entrances. Buildings should remain locked at all times during campus closures. If you are on campus or have a need to enter a building, please contact the campus police department at 662-846-4155.
The Statesman’s Shelf Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 am-11:30 am tomorrow, Friday, January 10, for anyone in the Delta State community needing to restock non-perishable food items.
Decisions regarding scheduled athletic events will be posted on the Delta State Athletics website (www.gostatesmen.com) and social media outlets.
For the status of other scheduled university events, please contact the event’s sponsor.
