Two DSU pianists earned top honors at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) State Competitions at Millsaps College in Jackson on Nov. 3.
Sung-Eun Ryu, from Hwaseong, South Korea, won first place and Young-Hye Min, from Ulsan, South Korea, placed second in the Young Artist Piano category of the MTNA state competitions. Ryu is a student of Dr. Karen Fosheim and Min is a student of Dr. Jung-Won Shin. Both are sophomores working toward a Bachelor of Music in piano performance at DSU.
Ryu will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia in January of 2018 to represent Mississippi in the MTNA Southern Division Competitions. She will compete with pianists from nine states for the opportunity to advance to the national competition in Tampa, Florida, in March 2018.
