Delta State Decades: The 1940s

Campus and community members are invited to celebrate Delta State’s 92 years of historic moments. This year’s program will focus on the decade of the 1940s which will include a brief introduction of Governor Whitfield, the man for whom Whitfield Gym/Hall is named and who signed a bill establishing Delta State Teachers College in 1924. Find out more about the historic events that took place in and around Whitfield Gym and how its renovation has given rise to a thriving new program, the Delta Music Institute Entertainment Industries Studies. The Delta State Wind Ensemble joins the program again this year, performing a selection of the green and white’s most popular tunes. Hosted by the Dedicated Statesmen Association and at the invitation of Delta State President William N. LaForge, a light lunch is provided for attendees. And of course, there will be cake, a sweet reminder of the appreciation and respect we all hold for Delta State University.
