By November 29, 2022

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Bolivar County and surrounding areas that is in effect this afternoon through the evening.

According to the NWS statement, severe storms are expected with damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail up to a golf ball size, and possible tornadoes. Localized flooding as well as downed trees and powerlines are likely. Travel may be hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Delta State University campus will close at noon for faculty, staff and students on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Residence halls and the cafeteria will remain open and will follow normal hours of operation. Employees are requested to contact their supervisor for work arrangements, and students should log-on to Canvas for academic instructions for the day.

University administration will continue to monitor this evolving weather event. Updates and notifications of campus status will be available at www.deltastate.edu, the university’s Facebook page (facebook.com/deltastateuniversity), Twitter account (@deltastate) and through the Okra Alert Emergency System. Or, you can call (662) 846-4155 for updates.

Decisions regarding scheduled athletic events will be posted on the Delta State Athletics website (www.gostatesmen.com) and social media outlets.
