CLEVELAND, Miss. — Faculty and students from Delta State University attended the 2024 Forum on American Enterprise Luncheon at the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) Annual Conference, held on October 18 in Jackson. The event featured Dr. Raphael Bostic, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Tomeka Harbin, Interim Dean of the College of Business and Aviation at Delta State University, currently serves on the MCEE Board, furthering her commitment to advancing economic education in the state. The mission of MCEE is to increase economic and financial literacy by providing resources and training to K-12 educators, empowering students to create a prosperous future for themselves and for Mississippi.

A key point of interest during the luncheon was the status of interest rates. “The attendees were primarily interested in how much longer it will take for interest rates to fall to a rate Dr. Bostic would like to see,” said Dr. Glendscene Williams, Division Chair of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems, and Geospatial Information Technologies. “He suspects the end of 2025 as a likely timeline.”

Delta State’s presence at the luncheon reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to engaging with economic thought leaders and equipping students with the financial knowledge necessary to navigate the evolving global economy.
