DSU SGA sends volunteers to beautification projects around Cleveland during annual Big Green Event

158 Delta State students participated in this year’s Big Green Event, spending time volunteering with spring cleaning projects around Cleveland.

CLEVELAND, Miss. — The third annual Big Green Event, hosted by Delta State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) took place recently, as Delta State University students pitched in on clean-up and beautification projects around the Cleveland area. 158 students helped for a combined total of 474 combined service hours.

Director of the Big Green Event Nicholas Bobo said, “The event went well with much being accomplished. The community members and job site coordinators said they had a great time and got a lot of work done. The student government cabinet is happy that we could give back to the community and have so many active student volunteers.”

Registration began at 8:00 a.m., and students were provided breakfast from Chick-fil-A. SGA representatives addressed the volunteers and assigned them to various projects. Shortly after 9:00 a.m., students dispersed to the project sites to begin work. Groups went to the Cleveland Public Library for yard work and window washing, picked up trash downtown along the walking trail, and helped with yardwork and spring cleaning at several other sites.
