DSU student Tyler Goad selected as finalist for Mississippi Young Bankers award

DSU senior finance major Tyler Goad of Tupelo has been recognized for his outstanding academic achievement and leadership by the Mississippi Bankers Association.

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Tyler Goad, a senior finance major and defender on the DSU soccer team from Tupelo, has been announced as a finalist for the prestigious 2024 Mississippi Young Bankers (MYB) Orrin H. Swayze Scholastic Award. This honor recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular involvement among Mississippi college students aspiring for careers in finance-related fields.

Goad was among a select group of finalists chosen by the MYB Scholarship Committee from numerous applications received from Mississippi’s top academic institutions. His outstanding record of academic excellence, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to his studies set him apart as a standout candidate for this esteemed award.

As a finalist, Goad has been designated as a Mississippi Young Bankers Scholar and will be presented with a plaque and a $1,500 award. He was also invited to attend the MYB Study Conference and Convention in March at the Marriott’s Grand Hotel & Resort in Point Clear, Alabama.

Goad’s accolades extend beyond this recent recognition. He previously received the Mississippi Banker’s Association Education Foundation Leadership Scholarship and has been the recipient of several other awards while at DSU, including the Academic Opportunity Award, Boys State Delegate Scholarship, C-Spire Foundation Scholarship, and the John Yurkow Scholarship.

Dr. Tomeka Harbin, Interim Dean of the College of Business and Aviation at Delta State, expressed pride in Goad’s achievement, saying, “Last year, DSU student Keshawn Jennings won the Swayze Award, and we are proud of Tyler for his selection as a finalist this year. Having the opportunity to attend the Mississippi Young Bankers Association meeting as an MYB Scholar is a great opportunity for Tyler. We appreciate the Mississippi Bankers Association for the lifechanging opportunities they provide for students in Mississippi.”
