DSU celebrates student excellence at Academic Research Showcase

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University proudly recognizes the outstanding achievements of 23 graduate and undergraduate students who showcased their research prowess at the annual Academic Research Showcase. The event marked a milestone with the highest number of submitted research posters in the past five years, underscoring the university’s commitment to fostering academic inquiry and innovation.

Organized by Fawn Ussery, Director of Library Services, and hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Roberts-LaForge Library, the Academic Research Showcase provided a platform for students to present their individual research projects in a poster session format. The Union’s second floor served as the backdrop for the display of posters, allowing participants to share their hard work and findings with the university community.

Undergraduate winners:

  1. 1st place – Dajanae Prout: “The Influence of Household Income on Pro-Environmental Attitudes”
  2. 2nd place – Lacy Whitcomb and Rachael Weeks: “Harmonizing Stress”
  3. 3rd place – Tchuknequa Baymon: “The Analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 Structure, Spike Mutations, Rate of Infection in the ISA Population”

Graduate winners:

  1. 1st place – Demyia Graham: “Graduate Assistantships Multi-Institutional Survey”
  2. 2nd place – Alexis Hartley: “Using Animations and Videos of 3D Crystalline Structures to Aid in Teaching Chemistry”
  3. 3rd place – Ruby Butler: “Raising the Bar on Attendance”

Ussery said, “First, I would like to commend all of them for their hard work and dedication to their chosen fields. The judges were impressed with every poster this year, and each one of our shining students helped make it the best and most extensive showcase yet!”

The Academic Research Showcase reflects DSU’s commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and providing students with opportunities to engage in meaningful research endeavors.
