Hometown: Lewisburg, MS

High School: Lewisburg High School

Age: 18

Planned DSU major: Psychology

What led you to choose that major? Through all my life I have wanted to help people. When I learned how important someone’s mental health is, I saw my opportunity to help others. I choose psychology as my major so I can become a therapist and help people better their mental health.

What led you to choose DSU? As a freshman in high school I was a member of the Delta State Honor Choir and I fell in love. The small campus and small student body appealed to me because I knew I was not a face in the crowd to my professors. Delta State just feels like home and is everything I wanted from a school.

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with in high school? In high school I was a part of my school’s chapter of the International Thespian Society, and I also sang in the choir and participated in the Interact Club.

What are you most looking forward to about college? I’m looking forward to meeting my new classmates. I love meeting people and college is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Who are one or two people who have had a big impact on your life and why? The two people I would say that has had the biggest impact on my life are my mom and my high school geometry teacher, Mrs. Mason. My mother is a superhero – she is one of the hardest workers I know, always trying her best for my family. She ownes her own cake business she has built up from the ground while also working another job. Her strength and ability is why she has made such an impact on me. She showed me what it is to be a hard worker for your family. Mrs. Mason is one of the greatest teachers I know. She has always been there for me when I needed someone. When I had questions, she always answered to the best of her abilities, no matter the question. She treated me with nothing but kindness and respect. She taught me to respect everyone and to teach others and to spread knowledge. She went back to college while being a teacher to achieve her master’s degree. Watching her journey and strive to get her master’s inspires me everyday and is the reason I intend to eventually go to grad school.

What are your hobbies/interests? I have many hobbies! What I am interested in the most however would be being outdoors. When I’m outside I feel the most relaxed and happy!

Any jobs? I have worked quite a few jobs but right now I work as a supervisor for my city’s park concession stands.

What was your favorite class in high school? In high school by far my favorite class was history. I find learning how the world was before us super interesting and informative.

How have you spent your summer? I have spent my summer preparing for college. I’m super excited to come to Delta State to learn and meet new and exciting people!
