CLEVELAND, Miss. — The annual meeting of the Bolivar County Chapter of the DSU Alumni Association was held Thursday, April 20. Alumni gathered in the parking lot behind the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni – Foundation House for crawfish, cornhole, live music and fellowship.
Chapter President Zach Pinkerton said, “We had a great evening thanks to the Alumni/Foundation staff, volunteers, and our wonderful sponsors. We were blessed with great weather, so the event was well attended and we raised the most money since the event’s inception in 2017. It was another great year supporting the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship and promoting DSU Bolivar County’s fantastic alumni.”
A total of 39 local businesses sponsored the event. The Delta String Band provided the entertainment, and the recipient of the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship was announced. This year’s award went to Cabot Nassar, a senior at Bayou Academy. The Crawfish King and Queen were also crowned, with this year’s honors going to Dr. Johnny Arnold and Mrs. Brenda Outlaw.
Proceeds from the event support the Bolivar County Alumni Chapter and the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established to honor the memory of former Assistant Alumni Director Liza Vaughn and is awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman from Bolivar County.
