CLEVELAND, Miss.— Kimberly Hunsucker has been named Teacher of the Year at DeSoto Central Middle School in Southaven, MS.

Hunsucker earned a Bachelor of Music Education at DSU in 2015, and is in her eighth year of teaching choir. She currently directs 132 students in five choral ensembles, one of which is the current Grand Champion of the Bluff City Choral Festival. In addition to participating in three annual concerts, various choral festivals, and performances of the National Anthem at the Memphis Redbirds and Memphis Grizzlies, her students also take a choral trip every spring. They are looking forward to an upcoming trip to Chicago.

Hunsucker said, “All of my professors played a huge role in who I am today as an educator. I wouldn’t be here without the encouragement, grace and mentorship that they all showed me. I’m forever thankful for Delta State.”

“Kimberly was a hardworking student and a talented singer. She had a positive outlook and passion for music that made her a joy to teach,” recalls Dr. Shelley Collins, Professor of Music. “It’s no surprise that she has been recognized for her excellence in the field of teaching.”

Kimberly and her husband Justin (BBA 2014, MBA 2015) are the proud parents of Joanna, age four.
