DSU Alumni Association Hosts “Statesmen Sweethearts”

By March 1, 2023Alumni, Foundation

CLEVELAND, Miss.— The Alumni Association of Delta State University raised $2810 during a first-of-its-kind Valentine’s event dubbed “Statesmen Sweethearts” that celebrated alumni couples who met during their time at DSU.

Friday, February 10 at The Warehouse restaurant in Cleveland, around 30 couples from as far away as Senatobia and Jackson enjoyed a meal catered by Catfish Cabin, cocktails provided by Whole Cellars Package Store, and music by Delta Music Institute’s Mary Claire Rackley.

“We had couples that had been married less than a year, and one that had been married for 50 years,” said Director of Alumni Affairs Corley Mullins. “The feedback we got was overwhelmingly positive and everyone said they hope we have more events like this one.”

The event raised money for the Alumni Association and the Delta State Fund through ticket sales and by raffling off items donated by Peter’s Pottery, Cotton House Hotel and Kidz Korner. DSU President Emeritus Kent Wyatt and his wife, Janice, were in attendance, as were many members of the Alumni Association board and DSU faculty and staff.

Video testimonials by several of the couples detailing how they met can be found on the DSU Alumni Association YouTube channel. For more information about the DSU Alumni Association, email alumni@deltastate.edu or visit their website at deltastategiving.org.
