Delta State’s TFA Graduate Fellows Host Pitch Breakfast at Mississippi Grounds

CLEVELAND, Miss.— The Delta State family and community members are invited to join the Pitch Breakfast this Saturday, Nov. 5, at Mississippi Grounds from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Come enjoy breakfast and coffee, then stay to watch the Delta State Homecoming Parade. As our guest, you will be an active participant in reimagining Mississippi communities with the TFA Graduate Fellows at DSU.

During the Pitch Breakfast, Delta State’s TFA Graduate Fellows will present a 1-minute pitch about their community project, then guests can network with Fellows to hear more about their project. Lastly, guests will vote on their top 3 favorite pitches/projects!

Pitch Winners will receive funds to go toward their project. 1st place $500, 2nd place $400, 3rd place $300.

The TFA Graduate Fellows Program is a collaboration between Teach For America and Delta State University, offering Teach For America alumni support while working to launch and run a social entrepreneurship project in the Mississippi communities they serve, while also completing a graduate degree program of their interest. Fellow’s projects vary based on the scholar’s passion and future goals. The current fellows are tackling societal challenges like education inequity, literacy gaps, and community-facing projects.

First-year 2022 Fellows include Hodricka Burnett, Whitney Christenson, Biz Harris, Kayla Hill, AK Suggs Horlock, LeKesha Perry, and Amy Pressey.

Second-year 2021 Fellows include Stephanie Parkinson, Monica Meredith, Pheron Russell, Lauren Huddleston, Grace Breazeale, Hannah Rosenhamer, and VanDetrick Lockhart.

The program is funded through a grant from the Robert M. Hearin Foundation. The principal goal of the foundation is to contribute to the overall economic advancement of the state of Mississippi by making funds available to four-year colleges and universities and graduate professional schools located in the state.
