Statesman Spotlight: Murat Gur

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Murat Gur, Technical Director within Delta State University’s Office of Information Technology, graduated from DSU with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Computer Information Systems) in 2008 and has worked for his alma mater ever since. Get to know him in this Statesman Spotlight.

Where are you from originally/Where do you consider your hometown?

I’m from Izmir, Turkey. Since I spent half of my life in Izmir and another half in Cleveland, I call both of them my hometown.

What do you like best about your job? 

I like challenging my knowledge about technology and making lasting impressions. It’s fun to use my technical and managerial skills to accomplish complex technological tasks.

Why do you enjoy working at Delta State?

I like working for the university that I graduated from.

What makes Delta State a special place to work?

The community of co-workers…It’s a place where you also spend leisure time such as attending ball games, movies and public programs. It was wonderful that both of my kids had a chance to go to Delta State University Child Development Center which was very close to my office building. I will always remember watching them play at the DSU playground.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I play with my 3-year-old Sela and my 7-year-old Sawyer. My son and I also go to Cub Scout camps.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list and why?

I would like to take my whole family to my other hometown Izmir, Turkey, and visit my parent’s summer house close to Cesme, Izmir.

Who would make you starstruck?

Steven Spielberg and Michael Jordan.

What is an interesting fact most people don’t know about you?

I was a swimmer growing up. I can still swim a couple thousand yards when I jump in the pool.
