Delta State students to host local community service project, The Big Green Event, April 23

CLEVELAND, Miss.— While most college students are preparing to close out the semester, students at Delta State University have been working to organize one of their biggest student-organized service projects to date—The Big Green Event.

Organized by Delta State’s Student Government Association, The Big Green Event is a one-day, student-run service project that will serve Delta State and the Cleveland area. During this year’s inaugural event, Delta State students will tackle more than 20 service projects on Delta State’s campus and around the Cleveland community.

“The SGA is really excited to host the inaugural Big Green Event since it provides students with an opportunity for Delta Sate Students to get involved and give back to the Cleveland Community,” said Lucia Chacon, director of public relations for the DSU SGA.

“We’ve been encouraging all students to sign up and help us serve Cleveland while having a fun time with their peers. This will be a fun time where students can feel like a part of something important while helping others around the community,” she added.

Delta State students will meet at Delta State’s McCool Football Stadium at 8:45 a.m. to pick-up supplies and select their project for the day. The projects will be completed between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Sites for this year’s event include the Cleveland Library, Downtown Cleveland, Pearmen Elementary, Wiley Garden and the DSU Child Development Center. Projects include gardening, cleaning up, weeding, window washing, raking, etc.
