Making spirits bright: Delta State’s Staff Council wraps up successful toy drive benefitting local children

A total of 157 toys were donated during the Delta State Staff Council's 2021 Toy Drive.

CLEVELAND, Miss.— Local children will experience the joy of receiving gifts this holiday season thanks to the generosity of Delta State University’s Administrative Staff Council.

Each year, Delta State’s Staff Council hosts a toy drive benefitting families selected by the Bolivar County Family & Children’s Services. This year, a total of 157 toys were donated during the drive which ran through the month of December.

“This year’s toy drive at Delta State was another success,” said Holly Ray, chair of Staff Council’s Special Projects Committee. “To know that we have played even a small part in bringing smiles and joy to children who might not have otherwise had a Christmas is truly humbling, and I am proud to be a member of our generous Delta State family.”

In addition to the contributions from Delta State staff members, donations were also given by the DSU Student Alumni Association, under the direction of Projects Chairman Anna Sledge Tucker and President Amarri Harris.

Contributions were also made by the Dedicated Statesmen Association—a group comprise of retired Delta State faculty and staff.

The toy drive is the Staff Council’s second successful project this holiday season. Last month, the organization delivered a truckload of non-perishable food items to the Bolivar County Family & Children’s Services through its annual Feed-A-Family food drive held each year before Thanksgiving.

Delta State’s Administrative Staff Council serves as a liaison between the administration and the staff to provide a formal process for staff to discuss issues involving university policies and procedures, and to forward ideas, recommendations and options to the university president.

The Staff Council is dedicated to excellence in service and the continued growth and development of Delta State University.
