CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation is continuing its support of Delta State University through a generous gift.

Recently, award-winning artist and Delta State alumnus Steve Azar ‘87 presented representatives from the Delta State University Foundation and the Delta Music Institute (DMI) with a $20,000 grant.

The grant will provide scholarship opportunities for students in Delta State’s DMI program. It will also be used to assist with recruitment tour expenses designed to increase awareness of the program to attract new students.

“I would like to thank Steve and his wife, Gwen, for their generous gift to Delta State University. We are proud of our relationship with the Azars over the years and their connection to the Delta Music Institute at DSU,” said Rick Munroe, vice president for University Advancement and External Relations.

The Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation was founded in 2006 by Steve and Gwen Azar to serve as a vehicle for charitable service and giving back to their communities through Steve’s abilities as a singer/songwriter and recording artist.

Grants provided by the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation are made possible through funds raised during the annual Delta Soul Celebrity Gold & Charity Event.

“We rely greatly on the involvement of the community who sponsor, volunteer or patronize our annual event,” said the Azars. “We encourage everyone to help spread the word and participate in the Delta Soul so that we can continue to build arts programs in schools and organizations through the Delta.”

Since its inception, the foundation has proudly disbursed over $950,000 to several organizations.
