Smith named Top 50 Under 40 by MS Business Journal

CLEVELAND, Miss.— Delta State University’s Director of Financial Aid Dr. Megan Smith was recently named among the top 10 of the Mississippi Business Journal’s (MBJ’s) 2021 Top 50 Under 40 award honorees.

MBJ’s Top 50 Under 40 program is designed to identify and honor Mississippi civic and business leaders who are making significant contributions to economic progress at the state and local level.

Winners of the prestigious award work across a wide variety of industries in the state, including healthcare, higher education and government.

Smith said she’s honored to be included among the group of talented young professionals.

“I am honored to be recognized with such an engaging group of Mississippians,” she said. “It is exciting to see others who have a similar passion for contributing to the betterment of our state through professional and civic opportunities.”

Smith has led Delta State’s Financial Aid since 2019. Prior to joining DSU, she worked in financial aid offices at Mississippi University for Women and Meridian Community College.

Smith was elected to serve as the 2021-2022 president of the Mississippi Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA).  She has served the organization in various capacities throughout her membership and was recognized as the 2011-2012 Rookie of the Year as well as the 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 President’s Award recipient for MASFAA.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism from The University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University, and a Doctor of Education with an emphasis in Higher Education from The University of Mississippi.
