CLEVELAND, Miss.— A Delta State University student has been selected as the recipient of the first-ever Logistics Scholarship Award.

John Sharp of Sturgis, Miss., a senior Aviation Management/Logistics major at Delta State, was recently awarded a $500 scholarship, courtesy of Statewide Federal Credit Union.

According to Casey Bacon, CEO of Statewide Federal Credit Union, the scholarship was established as a way to demonstrate corporate philanthropy support for outstanding student success.

Sharp was selected for the award for his academic hard work, character and drive.

“John was chosen for his industry-specific maturity, student teamwork/collaboration skills, communication and interpersonal skills, leadership, problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, adaptability, initiative, passion, focus and determination,” said DSU Aviation and Logistics Instructor Carl Brinkley.

“These merits alone make him highly worthy of the scholarship along with a financial need to complete his education at DSU.  Above all, I can’t think of a better student who deserves such,” he added.

Plans are underway to make the scholarship an annual award, Brinkley said.
