Pre-Registration for Summer and Fall 2021 now open at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss.— If you’ve seen a myriad of orange signs around the campus of Delta State University, that could only mean one thing: Pre-Registration Week is here.

Registration for 2021 Summer I, Summer II and Fall courses is now open for current DSU undergraduate and graduate students and will expand to new and returning students the following week.

Current students are encouraged to take advantage of the prioritization available to them during Pre-Registration Week, hosted bi-annually during the Fall and Spring semesters.

The Spring 2021 Pre-Registration Week schedule, which kicked off Monday, March 29, is as follows:

  • Monday, March 29: Graduate Students, Seniors, Honor Students, Student-Athletes
  • Tuesday, March 30: Juniors
  • Wednesday, March 31: Sophomores
  • Thursday, April 1: Freshmen

Registration will expand to include new and returning students on April 5.

All first-time freshmen and transfer students who register from April 5 to May 7 will automatically receive a $250 tuition award for the Fall 2021 semester. For more information, about the tuition award, visit www.gotodsu.net.

Spearheaded by Delta State’s Student Success Center, Pre-Registration Week was implemented as a way to boost awareness on campus and improve retention.

“Research shows that students who pre-register during a current semester for a future semester are more likely to return to campus,” said Darla Poole, coordinator for Academic Advising Services, a division of the Student Success Center at Delta State.

With a signature orange color used for signs and other promotions, the innovative strategy has been paying off.

“In Spring 2014, only 29% of DSU students pre-registered for classes during Pre-Registration week. Because of this low percentage and its negative impact on retention, the Student Success Center began taking the lead in promoting Pre-Registration Week by canvassing the campus in orange, so everyone is aware that it is Pre-Registration Week. Current pre-registration rates now average between 70-80%,” she shared.

In addition, current students who take advantage of Pre-Registration Week are automatically entered to win 1 of 10 prizes, with additional entry opportunities available by sharing via email and social media (@dsu_student_success on TikTok & Instagram; and Delta State Pre-Registration on Facebook).

“We want to avoid hearing someone say, ‘I didn’t’ know it was Pre-Registration week,’” said Poole. “We encourage students to meet with their advisors as soon as possible to discuss options for choosing and scheduling their courses. We advise current students to pre-register this week for two main reasons: priority in course scheduling, and it’s one less thing for them to worry about over the summer break!”

Registration closes for the Summer I session on May 25, Summer II session on June 29 and Fall 2021 semester on Aug. 25.
