CLEVELAND, Miss.— Delta State University’s Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) was recently selected as the 2020-2021 recipient for the coveted Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Outstanding Chapter Award (Small Chapter).
CSI is an international honor society that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. Under the auspices of DSU’s College of Education and Human Sciences, DSU’s Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter provides members with professional growth and networking opportunities.
The CSI Outstanding Chapter Award is designed to recognize outstanding chapter activities—including newsletters, special publications, individual programs, web pages, recruitment strategies, chapter growth, networking and/or evidence of professional development.
DSU’s Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter will be formally recognized during the virtual CSI Days. The chapter’s award is scheduled to be presented during the Delegate Business Meeting & Awards Ceremony on Friday, March 26, from 1-3 p.m. EDT. The full schedule of CSI events is available at www.csi-net.org/page/CSI_Day
“Our chapter has exceeded many expectations throughout this year while facing many challenges and obstacles,” said Mary Catherine Russell McGee, president of the DSU’s Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter.
“The chapter has not only grown in membership but has also upheld CSI standards for professional advocacy and community service. Our chapter has gone above and beyond this year by helping students, communities, and many different populations. The members of our chapter work diligently to meet the goals of CSI,” she added.
Serving as the Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter Faculty Advisor since 2015, Dr. Mary Bess Pannel said she’s proud of the organization’s latest accomplishment.
“It is an honor to be recognized for the chapter members’ hard work, efforts, and many achievements,” said Pannel, who also serves as an assistant professor of counselor education at DSU.
“Our members continue to be involved in various community service projects including volunteering at the DSU Woodall Conference, honoring veterans, sending Valentine’s to various populations, donating face masks as well as conducting toy drives.”
Chi Sigma Iota was established in 1985 through the efforts of leaders in the profession of counseling whose desire was to provide recognition for outstanding achievement as well as outstanding service within the profession. CSI was created for counselors-in-training, counselor educators and professional counselors whose career commitment is to research and service through professional counseling.
The mission of CSI is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling. The organization’s symbols and colors were chosen to reflect its mission and values—white for virtue and blue for trustworthiness and integrity.
