Delta State University extends its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of DSU student Darrell “Drew” Rexrode who was killed after a single-vehicle accident on Nov. 8, 2019, in Sunflower County.

A celebration of his life—and of the life of Rhianna Billings, another DSU student who passed away after a brief illness on Nov. 14, 2019, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital—will take place at 6 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the Lena Roberts Sillers Chapel on the Delta State campus.

Rexrode majored in health, physical education, and recreation at Delta State as a junior. He had transferred from Hinds Community College, at which he played tennis on a full scholarship. At Delta State, Rexrode pledged Kappa Alpha fraternity. A sports enthusiast, Rexrode also liked football, basketball, golf, bowling, and table tennis. Born in Greenville, he graduated from Deer Creek Academy in Arcola in 2017.

“Student Affairs mourns Drew’s loss with his family and the students who knew and loved him, including his Kappa Alpha Order fraternity brothers,” said Vernell Bennett, Delta State vice president for student affairs. “We will be a support system for them during this most difficult time.”

Rexrode, 21, of Greenville, died on his birthday. Services were held on Nov. 11 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville. Burial was in Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Greenville.

Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Lisa Rexrode; two big brothers, Chris (Katie) Boykin and Jamie (Ashley) Lemonis; maternal grandparents, William (Pinkey) and Mary Winters; paternal grandparents, Rickie and Dianne Rexrode; and great-grandparent, Keith Rexrode, among others.
