Art Department to Host 2019 Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition

The Delta State University Art Department will host this year’s Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition from Jan. 26 through Feb. 21.

In its 69th year, the Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition is the most prestigious contest of its kind in Mississippi and open to all art students at four-year colleges and universities in the state. Submissions must have been created within the last 12 months.

Jenny K. Hager, professor of sculpture at the University of North Florida, served as juror, selecting 103 pieces out of 892 entries from nine institutions for the month-long exhibition at DSU’s Fielding Wright Art Center Gallery.

The juror also selects the winners of awards, including a best-of-show award and three awards of excellence as well as recognition of superior achievements in each medium. The awards will be presented during the opening reception from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The show runs until Thursday, Feb. 21. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM and Friday 8 AM to 4 PM. The gallery is closed on weekends, holidays, and during semester breaks. The gallery is free and open to the public.
