Fireside Chat – September 4, 2018 – Labor Day Special

By September 4, 2018President

President LaForge is joined by two members of Delta State’s facilities management team, Cecil Barnett and Michael Kemp.

Yesterday was Labor Day, a national holiday to pay tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.  Today, I want to recognize our hard working faculty and staff at this great university — particularly our facilities management department.

The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for ensuring that effective and efficient services in planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all University facilities and grounds support the academic, research, and administrative functions, while balancing financial and technical constraints with aesthetic and historical concerns. They are dedicated to providing an attractive, clean, accessible, safe, and well-planned educational environment to facilitate campus activities, and support the mission and goals of the university. All efforts of the department are service-based, and satisfactory customer service is an essential component and goal of all departmental undertakings.

In other news on campus, there will be a screening of “Eyes on Mississippi’ on Thursday, September 6 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Baioni Conference Center in Broom. This documentary chronicles the life and work of journalist Bill Minor, who covered state and national politics for over 50 years, through his newspaper columns reporting race during the civil rights era. A panel discussion with author and documentary filmmaker Ellen Ann Fentress and invited professionals and DSU student journalists will follow. This event is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, the Delta State football team will host their first home game against Grand Valley State University at 6:00 p.m. Please come out and help cheer on the Statesmen to their first home field victory of the year.
