Fireside Chat – August 27, 2018 – Miss DSU Gillian Oakley Competes in Miss Mississippi

President LaForge is joined by Miss Gillian Oakley, a senior, music education major from Southaven, Mississippi.

Gillian is very involved on campus, including serving on the Student Alumni Association and Student Government Association, as well as being a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Mu Phi Epsilon, Delta Delta Delta sorority, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and participating in three of the Delta State choirs. Gillian is the reigning Miss Delta State University, a title that she also held in in 2016, making her only the second person to hold the title twice — the first being Ann-Marie Webber Collins, who won the inaugural pageant in 1959 and again in 1961.

In June, Gillian competed in the Miss Mississippi pageant in Vicksburg, Mississippi where she promoted her platform of suicide awareness and prevention.

In other news on campus, Boz Scaggs is performing at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the Office of Career Services is hosting the OkraWorks part-time job fair for current DSU students from 1:30-4 p.m. on the Quad. Local employers, who have positions available, will attend in order to recruit employees for their organizations.
