The Delta State University National Alumni Association will travel to Southaven for its annual Desoto County Alumni Event on Saturday, Aug. 4. This year’s event will be held at the BankPlus Training Center and will begin at 6 p.m. with a social.

An update from campus will begin at 6:45 p.m., and the Desoto County Scholarship Silent Auction will be open from 6-8 p.m. The cost will be $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. Children are welcome, and kids under 12 eat free. Walk-in guests are welcome to pay at the door.

Rick Munroe, Vice President of University Advancement and External Relations; Ronnie Mayers, Director of Athletics; Matt Jones, Associate Athletic Director; Emily Jones, University Archivist will be the featured guests from campus. Jeffrey Farris and Amanda Robinson will represent the Alumni Association staff, as well as other Delta State faculty and staff who will be in attendance.

“We’re looking forward to another successful chapter meeting in Desoto County,” said Janie Michelle Stafford, president of the Desoto County Alumni Chapter. This annual event provides us an opportunity to celebrate Delta State in Desoto County and focus on raising scholarships for prospective students who will attend Delta State.

Each year, the event has a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the DeSoto County Scholarship Fund. The silent auction has raised over $15,000 during the past decade. The scholarship has benefited over 30 students since 2006. This year’s recipients are Hannah Taylor, of Southaven, and Mary Allison Mayo, of Hernando.

Prospective students are invited to attend as guests of the Alumni Association.
