Winners of the third annual DSU B.E.E.P. Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament were Johnny (left) and James Glorioso.

The Breast Education and Early-detection Project (B.E.E.P.) at Delta State partnered with the DSU Golf Course to sponsor the third annual DSU B.E.E.P. Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament on Oct. 22. The tournament, organized by David Williams and Cecil Barnett of the golf course, and Gail Bailey, B.E.E.P. project director, raised over $1,500 to support the B.E.E.P. program.

Eleven teams participated in the two-person 18-hole scramble tournament held on the Darrell Foreman Golf Course. A fish fry was held at the conclusion of the event.

The team of Johnny Glorioso and James Glorioso won the championship flight finishing ahead of second place winners Gary Cooper and Randy Medders, and third place winners, Parker Dilworth and Kirkham Povall.

Sponsors of the tournament included Backyard Burgers, Barnes & Noble (DSU Bookstore), Catfish Cabin, Cleveland State Bank, Delta Remodeling (Gary Cooper), Domino’s Pizza, Farm Bureau, Ferguson Grease (Buddy Ferguson), GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, Julian Hardy, Wylie Hilburn, Lampard’s Wholesale Meats, Nancy Chiz and Nehi Bottling Company.

“B.E.E.P. would like to thank David Williams, Cecil Barnett, John Waller, Richard Mun and Hunter Walls of the DSU Golf Course for their assistance in making this tournament such a fun experience for everyone while raising funds for such a worthy cause,” said Bailey. “I would like to thank Wylie Hilburn for providing the delicious fish fry. The tournament would also not have been possible without the assistance from the sponsors and the people participating in the tournament. DSU is very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility as the Darrell Foreman Golf Course to serve the college and the community.”

B.E.E.P. is funded through a grant from the Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. B.E.E.P. participates in Breast Cancer Awareness events and provides breast health education throughout Bolivar, Sunflower, Washington and surrounding counties. The project also provides funding for clinical exams, mammograms and ultrasounds for women who have limited income, are uninsured or underinsured, and have limited access to preventative healthcare.

All proceeds from the tournament will go to support B.E.E.P. and will provide breast cancer screenings for project participants.
