The Delta State University Department of Music presents Monica Michelle Ely in her junior voice recital April 2 at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

The Delta State University Department of Music presents Monica Michelle Ely in her junior voice recital April 2 at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. This recital is free and open to the public. 

Ely, a junior vocal performance major from Mobile, Ala., is the daughter of Rick and Vertice Ely. She studies with Dr. Chad Payton, assistant professor of music at Delta State.

Since entering Delta State in the fall of 2012, she has been involved with DSU Chorale, Chamber Singers, Opera Theater and Color Guard, and she is a section leader in DSU Chorale. She has held an executive position in the professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, where she is currently the chorister. Additionally, she was one of five selected performers in the 2014 Delta State Honors Recital.

In the summer of 2014, Ely worked at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, where she served as section leader for the Staff Chamber Choir and Chorale, music director for the acapella group, Bluecapella, and soprano soloist with the faculty orchestra in Ludolf Arens’s Mass. In 2012, she placed at the southern regional NATS competition and received the Outstanding Vocal Award from the Faulkner Division of Fine Arts.

Ely will be performing compositions by Gluck, Donaudy, Schubert, Schumann, Massenet and Arlen.
