DMI earns Avid Learning Partner certification

The Delta Music Institute was recently designated at the only Avid Learning Partner in Mississippi.

The Delta Music Institute, Delta State University’s entertainment industry studies program, recently earned designation as a certified Avid Learning Partner. The certification distinguishes the DMI as the only ALP in the state of Mississippi.

Avid is the world’s leading provider of audio and video technology for media organizations and independent professionals. Customers use Avid solutions to create, distribute and monetize films, videos, music recordings, TV shows, live concerts and news broadcasts.

“To be certified as an Avid Learning Partner positions Delta State University and the DMI to be able offer an additional level of training for music and entertainment industry professionals in the mid-South region,” said Tricia Walker, DMI director. “We are particularly excited that our students will have the opportunity to become certified Avid users as part of their education right here at Delta State.”

ALPs have a strong quality focus on education and state-of-the-art training environments, including program requirements of at least one dedicated training room with projection equipment; instructors who have successfully completed the Avid Certified Instructor process; and use of Avid official courseware for all Avid courses.

DMI faculty and staff members who successfully completed the training requirements for Avid Certified Instructors include: Charly Abraham, Travis Calvin, Miles Fulwider, Katherine Grant and Vickie Jackson.

The ALP program is designed for independent training companies, corporations, universities or other educational institutions that provide training on Avid products. DMI certified Avid Instructors will combine instructional excellence, curriculum development and product expertise to offer students and customers the opportunity to achieve a high level of success in their field.

“Being an Avid Learning Partner allows us to be a leader in professional production instruction,” said Fulwider. “Our students will study through a rigorous curriculum and upon completion will demonstrate understanding and proficiency on different levels in the tools that students will be expected to work in professionally.

“The Delta is such a vital and unique place for one to discover music, history and culture. As the DMI is now an ALP, we are able to contribute to this rich heritage by providing comprehensive professional training and certifications on the tools that have become the industry standards.”

As a certified partner, the DMI will begin to offer certification this semester to students in the entertainment industry studies program, as well as to interested clients in the region through public workshops. The first Avid certification workshop will be announced later this spring.

The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State and offers a bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Industry Studies. The focus of the DMI is to provide students with a broad and thorough education in the technological, creative and business areas of the music and entertainment industry.
