American University studies Jewish heritage

Students from American University in Washington, D.C. recently learned about the Delta's cultural heritage through the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University.

The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University recently provided an introduction of the Delta’s cultural heritage to a service learning class from American University in Washington, D.C.

The class was presented by the American University Hillel organization and led by director Jason Benkendorf. The service opportunities for the group were provided by Mississippians Engaged in Greener Agriculture.

The tour included meetings at the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation, a visit to Congregation Adath Israel and Calvary Episcopal Church in Cleveland, Congregation Ahavath Rayim in Greenwood and the Institute for Southern Jewish Life in Jackson.

The group also attended Shabbat services and dinner at Hebrew Union Temple in Greenville.
