The Delta Center for Culture and Learning recently presented a heritage tour to participants in a workshop titled Resource Rich: The Mississippi Delta.

This workshop attracted 16 Delta teachers and 10 Delta State pre-service teachers.  It was funded by the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi as part of their Place-Based Education and Civic Entrepreneurship program.

Dianne Thomas of the Delta State College of Education organized the workshop.

“The purpose of the workshop was to present many of the rich resources available in our area to use when teaching students in the P-12 setting. The pre-service teachers were learning more about how to include important information about the Delta into their thematic units,” said Thomas.

The Center is the manager of the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area, a partnership between the people of the Mississippi Delta and the National Park Service.  For information about the National Heritage Area, contact the center at 662-846-4311.
