Musical talent to showcase in senior performances

The Delta State University Department of Music will present senior vocal recitals on Oct. 3 at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. The performances will feature seniors Sarah Green and Andrew Carlton. They are free and open to the public.

Green, a vocal major from Vicksburg, Miss., will be performing compositions by Handel, Schumann, Chausson, and Rorem. She is the daughter of Ron and Sharon Green and studies with Dr. Mary Lenn Buchanan, professor of voice, at Delta State. Since entering the university in 2008, Green has been involved with DSU Singers, DSU Chorale, DSU Chamber Singers, the DSU ‘Pride of the Delta’ Marching Band, and the DSU Wind Ensemble. She is also a member of the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon and the Zeta Rho Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda.

Carlton, a vocal major from Olive Branch, Miss., will be performing compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Reynaldo Hahn, Gabriel Faure, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. He is the son of Sandra and Rick Carlton and studies with Dr. Mary Lenn Buchanan at Delta State. Since entering the university in 2010, Carlton has been involved with DSU Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Opera.

The Department of Music offers bachelor’s degrees in Performance, Music Education, and Liberal Arts. The Department provides supportive instruction to both majors and non- majors in music theory, music history, music education, and performance to cultivate the development of musical skills, knowledge, and appreciation.
